Why would it be an overdose, it's still the same dose?

ElizabethMainwaring · 19/04/2019 00:18

It won't make any difference if you chewed them or swallowed them whole. How many did you take? Just the normal amount?

HollaHolla · 19/04/2019 00:18

I’m not a nurse/medic, but I do suffer from chronic pain.
As I understand your message, you have taken your normal dose, but crushed it. I don’t believe you can overdose unless you take too much, not how you take it. I always break my tablets in half, and swallow them that way as they’re too large for me otherwise.

HollaHolla · 19/04/2019 00:19

I should add that it can change the absorption rate, but it doesn’t change how much of each drug is there.

Hohofortherobbers · 19/04/2019 00:20

It would only be a problem if it was a medication in a slow release formulation. I am confident that cocodamol is not available slow release. Its fine

louisvootin · 19/04/2019 00:20

yeah i just took my normal dose .thank you everybody for ur replys

I think technically you can “overdose” in the sense that the tablets are designed to be absorbed slowly in the stomach but if you crush them the body absorbs them faster and so the dose gets into your blood stream in higher amounts in a shorter time.

I’m sure you will be fine, but if you are worried ring 111 and ask for some advice.

ElizabethMainwaring · 19/04/2019 00:23

You will be fine. Cocodemol are paracetamol with a small amount of codeine. They are not that strong.Dont panic.

MovingThisYearDefinitely · 19/04/2019 01:51

Your biggest problem is that it tastes fucking vile! Confused

Notsofast1 · 19/04/2019 01:57

I'm a pharmacist. You absolutely wont have done yourself any harm. They wont even be absorbed any quicker as the tabs would have dissolved quickly in your stomach acid as soon as you swallowed them. The only way you can overdose is by taking more than the recommended dose of something. The reason people don't crush co-codamol normally is because it tastes absoluteky vile!. To those talking about slow release medication you still wouldn't necessarily overdose if you crushed a tablet but you would get a "dose dump" so it would likely only work for a few hours rather than the required 12 or something and you would be more likely to get side effects.

LucyBabs · 19/04/2019 02:05

Glad you've got good advice op I thought co codamol was something stronger than paracetamol and codeine. Is co codamol the brand name like Nurofen/Panadol?

LagunaBubbles · 19/04/2019 02:09

Lucy Co codamol is paracetamol and codeine.

Scott72 · 19/04/2019 02:33

They'd take into account that people could crush or chew them before they allowed them to be released onto the market. You should watch out for side effects though.

LittleSprite · 19/04/2019 03:16

@LucyBabs, co-codamol is COmbined CODeine and paracetAMOL.

PregnantSea · 19/04/2019 05:09

You are fine, it's the same dose either way. Although I imagine it tasted awful! Just the thought of chewing them makes me feel sick lol
