Because I have just eaten my first English asparagus of the year and it was delicious.

Can't wait for the strawberry season to start, and then raspberries. Mmmmmm.

As long as you are the only one having to smell it... I also don't care that my pee is orangey red as I eat so much beetroot.

I can't wait till more fruit is in season...

viques · 17/04/2019 16:56

Yup.Seasonal food is the best.

I thought this would be about asparagus. I haven't eaten it for years, I just can't cope with the smell - it's horrendous!

SpoonBlender · 17/04/2019 17:08

Flush while you're peeing, Goat. It's worth it.

SpriggyTheHedgehog · 17/04/2019 17:10

I keep hearing about this asparagus pee problem but I've never experienced it, and I eat a lot of asparagus. I wonder if it only affects certain people?

keiratwiceknightly · 17/04/2019 17:13

Everyone does asparagus wee apparently. It's a genetic thing whether you can smell it or not though - like tongue rolling.

I think it's two fold ... some peoples wee does smell, some doesn't. But also (ain't nature grand) some people can't smell it either ...

I'm more fascinated by the inability of some people to smell cyanide - in particular whether it has any bearing on the love/hate around marzipan ....

Iruka · 17/04/2019 17:14

Spriggy Only certain people produce the smell and only certain people can smell it. Do you notice your other half gagging after you have peed? Grin

babysharkah · 17/04/2019 17:15

I read once that one of th compounds in asparagus wee is used to scent natural gas. If you can't smell asparagus wee you wouldn't be able to smell a gas leak.

I bloody love asparagus, and happily put up with the wee.

hippermiddleton · 17/04/2019 17:15

I love asparagus, and perversely, the smell of asparagus wee makes me oddly happy that nature can pull amusing stunts on human beings.

TooManyAprilShowers · 17/04/2019 17:19

I eat asparagus but can honestly say I never notice a smell in my pee

jmh740 · 17/04/2019 17:20

I've never noticed a smell bit I rarely eat asparagus. I have noticed a smell when I eat bacon crisps or veggie bacon.

SpriggyTheHedgehog · 17/04/2019 17:21

No. None of us seem to have an issue. Interesting.

SteveTheSpiderPlant · 17/04/2019 17:21

I eat asparagus regularly and have never noticed a smell either.

SpriggyTheHedgehog · 17/04/2019 17:22

I can definitely smell gas though.

youarenotkiddingme · 17/04/2019 17:23

The lovely glass bottles of fresh apple juice from farmers markets make my pee smell Confused

Mercaptan, from memory. Also released by frying garlic ... apparently when natural gas was introduced in France, there were a lot of false alarms Grin.

Whatnowww · 17/04/2019 17:27

I've started taking a vit D supplement and it's turned my wee neon yellow.

Fairypiggy · 17/04/2019 17:28

My wee smells like asparagus when I eat it. My wee also smells like coffee when I drink coffee! Wee going pink with beetroot is genetic but not sure about asparagus smell.

Oysterbabe · 17/04/2019 17:28

I don't think it matters if wee smells.
Asparagus is delicious.

notoafternoontea · 17/04/2019 17:29

We started on asparagus last Friday. Tonight it will be in my dinner for the 4th time. We go to town on it at this time of year and don’t eat it when it’s not English. And we put up with the smelly wee. It’s SO good.

sar302 · 17/04/2019 17:31

My husband is a "non-smeller" of asparagus pee - all the asparagus for me!

I love the notion that people are harvesting asparagus wee in order that we can smell gas leaks.

I also realise this is something I've made up.

Oooh, sinister. I like it.

LoudJazzHands · 17/04/2019 17:36

DH reckons the perfect dinner party meal consists of beetroot and asparagus.
