Dresses to cover belly?

fantasea8 · 16/04/2019 09:58

Posting for traffic as am slightly desperate here. I had a baby a few months ago and have been left with a bit of a flabby belly. I'm a size 12-14 and have a healthy BMI. I have chunky thighs, fairly big bum and my belly sticks out. My arms are slim and my boobs are huge at the moment from breastfeeding (hoping they'll reduce a bit when I stop!).

Can anyone advise on what dresses tend to suit slim women who have a bit of a protruding belly?

I would post a photo of myself but I have lots of tattoos so it's difficult.

Feeling dreadfully down about my new shape since having a baby and want to order a few dresses to increase my self confidence.

Have you looked at wrap dresses

fantasea8 · 16/04/2019 10:01

@wigglypiggly I haven't looked at anything as yet. I looked in my wardrobe and all I have is tight fitted dresses that once I could wear. Had a slight meltdown and resigned myself to never wearing a dress again!

I think shift dresses that skim over a big bust and tummy can look slimming and for me are the most flattering style.

I would love to feel good in wrap dresses but they just emphasise my huge bust.

fantasea8 · 16/04/2019 10:05

My left boob is also a lot bigger than my right and I'm quite self conscious about this. Not sure how to hide it.

How about this kind of style? They nip in just under the bust and flare out over belly and hips.

Sorry, that link didn't seem to work but you can easily find them. Lots of pretty options there.

Lindybop dresses are flattering www.lindybop.co.uk/dresses.html

Monki have some great dresses - really comfortable and flattering. Summer range is just in, take a look!

TiredTodayZzzz · 16/04/2019 12:42

I'm a size 14 and hate my hips and stomach. I like a peplum to cover them.

Felipa · 16/04/2019 12:46

I always look for shirred waist dresses. If you google them, loads will come up. Extremely comfy over the.stomach area but not baggy. They're also good for early pregnancy and after having a baby.

I have this exact figure. Speaking from experience, the only type of dress that is flattering is a 50s shape. AKA fit and flare / prom style. A Line tunic tops/dresses too. Anything that clings to the boobs and flares out over the belly.

The key is to find a neckline that suits your boobs and that you're comfortable with. I personally like a square or sweetheart. NOT a high neckline as it's like my boobs are held prisoner and want to burst out. NOT too low cut that my boobs spill out.

Spanx with the high waist, control tights and control leggings are my best friends for holding my stomach in under dresses.

If you have an occasion to go to (weddings, parties etc) I really like the flares dresses at Jolie Moi. If you like the kind of "rockabilly" / vintage style, there are lots of sites like Lindybop.

Oasis sometimes do nice dresses in this style too.

HTH a bit anyway x

I am Apple shaped and am really surprised people are saying 50 s Lindy bop style, to me they would only work on hourglass, which is the opposite of apple. But I guess we’re all different. I would LOVE to have the figure for 50s styles, I have to do empire line or smock styles.

Apple shaped with huge boobs and tummy- just bought this, flattering and comfy

gamerwidow · 16/04/2019 18:27

If you have big boobs don’t make the mistake of trying to cover up in a trapeze style or baggy dress. It will just hang off your boobs and make you look like a potato. Anything lightly fitted that skims your stomach and has a lowish neckline will look good though. I’m a big boobed apple shaped and wrap dresses and belted dresses are my go to styles.

gamerwidow · 16/04/2019 18:28

Ps that bravissimo dress is perfect.

HoHoHolyCow · 16/04/2019 18:35

I'm a size 8-10 but have a round tummy (small boobs though).

I just bought this which disguises my pot belly very nicely!

All my pre-DC dresses got shipped to the charity shop after my rib cage expanded and never shrank back. I've always had a podgy tummy though!

Defo wrap dresses and dresses with some ruching across the front, have a Google of Silkfred website, got some lovely dresses on there, also dresses with a material belt that ties in the front, avoid big hold em in knickers they tend to squish bits out in the wrong place 😂

ohmydaysagain · 16/04/2019 19:20

Skater dresses are your friend they are perfect for the shapes you have described

Chickenwing · 16/04/2019 19:21

Skater dresses

starbrightnight · 16/04/2019 20:28

Love that bravissimo dress so much that I ordered it. 👏😊
