To ask for your reasonably priced honeymoon recommendations

Looking at booking our honeymoon shortly. I'm not looking for a private island in the Maldives or anything but would like to go somewhere a bit different for a reasonable price.

Where did you go for your honeymoon on a budget? Or just a holiday that you really enjoyed?

Went to Thailand. Wasn't the cheapest holiday and we could have done it cheaper. But accommodation and food and drink are cheap when you are there. The flights weren't too bad either compared to some places.
We loved it as it was totally different to what we have done before.
Would love to go back but not as easy with 2 kids and wouldn't be the same so glad we did it.

Italy. Even though it was baking hot we just still wanted to go to Italy.

Stayed in Bologna, Padua, Mantua, Ravenna, Verona - 2-3 days in each, travelling about by train.

Saw loads of stuff - the mosaics in Ravenna are amazing, sadly got rained out at the opera in the amphitheatre in Verona. Best place we stayed was the basement in an old palazzo which was now a B&B - they made us cupcakes with our names on when we said in was our honeymoon Smile

Came back about a stone heavier than when we left, the food was incredible Grin

Depends how DIY or packaged you want it really. Always cheap flights available to Italy likes of Milan bergamo airport, can easily then do some bergamo upper city which is stunning. Low cost places on air B and B etc to stay. You could then go up to Lake como for a few nights by the lake and visit Bellagio etc, all very romantic and lovely. However if you prefer package types this isn’t as good option! Package style jet 2 have lots of reasonably priced places to visit and wide variety of star rating and board basis - key is to travel on cheaper flight priced dates !

We booked the honeymoon lodge at center parcs! Loved it, went to the spa and there was a sauna attached to our lodge, and got to drive straight from the wedding which was nice! I think I ate 1/4 of our leftover wedding cake that week!!

What's reasonable though? I've done various holidays ranging from Rome/Pompeii for 5 days (£500 all in for 2), Finland for 5 days (£750 all in for 2), Turkey for 7 days all inclusive 5 (£1000 all in for 2), Bali honeymoon 5 all inclusive for 2k (Inc white water rafting and elephant sanctuary) and finally, the big one of Canada for 12 days, all winter excursions and snowboarding for 5k.

All holidays were reasonable costs for what I packed in, but obviously ranging in price.

DH and I married two years ago, and we “staycationed” across the UK.

We literally jumped in my car the day after the wedding, I drove, and DH browsed Air BnB, and we booked last minute places as we went along for a week. It was lovely! All in all, we stayed in Frome, Wells, Bath, London and Brighton, and it felt like such a long holiday! We booked a last minute hotel stay in London, and because DH mentioned it was our honeymoon on the phone with them, they upgraded us to a suite, and decorated it for us! It was so sweet. The desk staff obviously waited until we had gone into the room, then rang the room phone, going, “Do you like it?! Have you found the wine and chocolates?!”

Great fun, would do it again for certain.

5 days in Lisbon and the nearby sea-side towns, in a "normal" hotel and then a nice (but not expensive) b&b.

Did most of it on the bus but hired a car for one day.

We're doing 3 weeks island hopping in the Philippines for ours!!

Thanks all! Some really interesting ideas :)

Someone asked what reasonable was... I'd say we'd have to keep it at or under 1k for both of us for flights and accommodation (if we left UK).
