Is it worth spending £90 a year on Norton?

It’s just been renewed automatically on our desktop computer .... is it still worth it or are there other cheaper versions that do the anti virus etc job just as well?

Hell no! Norton is not so great. If you have a Windows machine just use the already installed Windows Defender. It's free with the machine and it's a pretty great anti-virus.

God no. I don’t use any. I keep anything important on clouds and I’m prepared to wipe the hard drive if necessary. I’ve been doing this for 15 years by using external drives before clouds. No problems at all.

I use Grisoft's AVG, which is free.

Never had a problem, and I've been using it since 2001.

TheQueef · 15/04/2019 08:55

I think which? Actually recommend the AVG free one.

If you have a Windows with Defender which is their own free and included anti- virus you don’t need anything else. I have 3 desktops and one laptop with Defender and never had an infection.

God no, Norton is crap. Do not spend any money on it. There are loads of free ones out there.
All Norton does is slow down your machine and is a bloody nightmare to get rid of.

Damntheman · 15/04/2019 09:02

AVG is pretty decent :) You don't need it though, if you've already got Defender.

78percentLindt · 15/04/2019 09:09

If you must have Norton don't automatically renew. It is much cheaper to look on line.

RezCowgirl · 15/04/2019 09:20

No it clogs up your hard drive and is a complete rip off. Loads of other free anti virus software out there.
