AIBU to apply for another job having accepted an offer

As a bit of context I was made redundant from
my current job before Christmas. I’ve been offered and accepted a good job at which I’m due to start in 2 weeks time... however today an amazing opportunity has arisen at a direct competitor of the company who I would be working for.

AIBU to apply for it having already accepted a job? There’s obviously no guarantee I would get it and I worry that it makes me look bad. However equally in the world of work I think all’s fair game considering companies will make you redundant at the drop of a hat.

Wwyd?

I'd apply! Have you signed a contract yet?

Apply. As you say companies drop employees at the drop of a hat. Do what is best for you. Good luck!

Apply! Look out for yourself OP.

I would apply. If you start the new job you will still be in a probation period and should be able to leave quickly. If the other one is your dream role you can’t let it pass you by. You new employers will probably be pissed off but you need to put yourself and your career first.

Do it! Even if application period takes you past starting at your new job - still do it and go to interviews whilst at new job. I managed a new starter who was made redundant from previous role, she then had an offer to go back to a new role at old company and left within a month of starting with us. It was disruptive but we’ve moved on. It’s life. Do what’s best for you.

I would definitely apply
