.... there are so many non parent members on here?
And I don't mean people who are TTC.

I've seen three threads in this last week that were from people who don't have kids and don't want kids.

This is a forum specifically for parents.

Is it just me that finds this odd?

Chancewouldbeafinethlng · 14/04/2019 18:31

No I don’t find it odd. It’s a very useful forum for parenting advice but the range of topics is so vast it’s bound to attract people that aren’t parents.

SpriggyTheHedgehog · 14/04/2019 18:31

FFS. We've had this thread about 500 times. Surely you can see that there are hundreds of topics on the site that are not related to parenting, including this one?

FredaFox · 14/04/2019 18:32

Not this again...?Hmm

FindYourCentre · 14/04/2019 18:32

The topics available to post under don't suggest this is for parents only

PutyourtoponTrevor · 14/04/2019 18:33

This must get posted every bloody week. I don't have kids, don't want them so I shouldn't be allowed? Not all the topics are kid related and the board I use, very few are - AIBU, Chat, Relationships, Doghouse and Sporner Corner

Jessie94 · 14/04/2019 18:35

Sorry - I only joined a couple of weeks ago so I didn't realise that this has been done before!

OP posts:
AnchorDownDeepBreath · 14/04/2019 18:35

I'm infinitely more annoyed by people posting this thread repeatedly and not just reading the previous weeks' iteration than I am about whether someone has kids or not.

DramaAlpaca · 14/04/2019 18:36

Despite the name, it's emphatically not 'a forum specifically for parents'.

It's got something for everyone, there are so many topics that don't have anything to do with being a parent & there are all sorts of people on here.

The only odd thing is how this daft question gets posted so often.

DoneLikeAKipper · 14/04/2019 18:38

Honestly, why does it matter? Yes MN started as a parenting forum, but there are now vast amounts of topics that do not need you to be a parent to contribute. Anyway, we’re all someone’s child, many here want to discuss their relationship with their parents, not just the other way around.

Next week on MN: why do men post on mumsnet?

HBStowe · 14/04/2019 18:38

This is the most repeated topic on MN and it’s so tedious and narrow minded. The vast majority of threads on here aren’t about parenting.

Jessie94 · 14/04/2019 18:39

Thank you. I didn't realise so many topics were covered on here. It's great!

It's just that the posts I saw were about parenting but from someone who is neither a parent nor wants to be one.
I guess it's more common than I realised!

Ghanagirl · 14/04/2019 18:45

@Jessie94
Yes it has been asked before but I thin YABU.
I don’t understand the posters who actually stat that they hate children that post on here particularly when they think their dogs are more important than a human child.
They should start a site called “dogsnet”

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 14/04/2019 18:48

If you look at the Talk forum, there are 5 topic headings that are completely or largely only relevant to parents and 23 topic headings that very much aren't.

It's one of the best and most comprehensive forums anywhere on the internet, so why would non-parents not want to join in discussing books, work, pets, relationships, TV, fashion etc. etc. ?

There aren't two distinct species of people - parents and non-parents. Both groups are exactly the same apart from the fact that one happen to have children and the other happen not to.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 14/04/2019 18:57

Next week on MN: why do with men post on mumsnet?

And the following week: Why do people who are not female trawlers with children post on Mumsnet ?

Maybe some people misread or misinterpret the title as Mums?Niet! and assume that it's a Russian-based site where everybody EXCEPT mothers are welcome Grin

resultswithintwoweeks · 16/04/2019 10:22

Even people with children have non-children-related issues.

Love it!! Grin

PawPawNoodle · 16/04/2019 10:26

Well since you're so concerned, @Jessie94, I joined when I was pregnant but then I had a miscarriage so regrettably I didn't get to have a child. Was I supposed to request for my account to be deleted because there is no physical proof of my parenthood?

(YABU btw)

churchthecat · 16/04/2019 10:28

I joined for the Litter Tray topic.

resultswithintwoweeks · 16/04/2019 10:31

In fact, as of now, none of the 5 topics in trending are about children at all!
