To ask if my hips are a weird shape? Pic attached

They measure 36 inches at the hip bone just under the waist then go in then grow to 41inches round the thighs. A quick internet search shows they're called hip dips or violin hips. It explains why trousers never fit and look awful on me! I think they just look really weird but my mum says they're normal. Anyone else got these?

Yeah, I'm the same way. Pear shaped. It's not weird though, just a body type!

Lockheart · 14/04/2019 11:43

Why on earth is this an AIBU?

If there's a name for them then clearly other people have got them. Including me, for that matter.

LifeofClimb · 14/04/2019 11:43

Yes, it’s completely normal

theonetowalkinthesun · 14/04/2019 11:44

Literally so, so, so many people have hips like this. You're not weird at all! Yes, magazines tend to call them hip dips

Msgiggles30 · 14/04/2019 11:45

Yes totally normal were just conditioned to think its not as you see Instagram 'models' who have had fat deposits put there to make them go out not in!

englishdictionary · 14/04/2019 11:45

It's not a weird shape, it's your shape.

escape · 14/04/2019 11:45

Yep! Feel your pain on the trousers front.

TwinsTrollsAndHunz · 14/04/2019 11:46

Totally normal

ShastaBeast · 14/04/2019 11:46

Is it muscle? My muscle is overdeveloped in that area but more to the front. I think it’s due to some muscles/ligaments not being as stable elsewhere. I’m using massage (sticks/foam rollers) to reduce the muscle tone there and exercise to increase it where it needs strengthening.

Otherwise I don’t worry as we’re all different shapes and sizes. We all have to dress to suit that shape. It isn’t abnormal or wrong if you are healthy.

Firstworddinosaur · 14/04/2019 11:47

Thanks peeps. I always thought it was pear shaped but it's the way they go out then in then out again so low down that I thought was weird!

‘Dip hips’? They’re just hips aren’t they? Social media and general media will come up with all sorts to keep women worrying about their bodies!
I’d kill for your flat tummy by the way! Envy

Sparklesocks · 14/04/2019 11:50

You’re fine, but relying on strangers on the internet to reassure you about your body is always a bad road to travel!

Loopytiles · 14/04/2019 11:55

Normal! But lots of social pressure on women to feel bad about normal body shapes,eg the “hip dip” shite on social media!

Firstworddinosaur · 14/04/2019 12:07

Thanks Shasta I don't think it's muscle it feels like big bone.

None of my friends have this particular shape and it's made me self conscious! Rubbish I know, I shouldn't get so hung up on it.

Loopytiles · 14/04/2019 12:24

It’s just a v common and normal body shape for women.

clockworklime · 14/04/2019 12:26

u look lush chik xxxx

scaredofthecity · 14/04/2019 12:29

I'm the same, I'm definately not pear shaped though.
I hate it because tight dresses never look right, i go in and out too many times!

Mineti · 21/03/2024 14:25

My body looks like this, with one hip different from the other, does anyone know why this might be and how to fix it please 🙏
