I was in my 30s when I discovered it. I had stupidly never tried it because the women that I knew that drank gin were all women that thought a lot of themselves and I had little in common with, so just thought it wasn't for me.

I don't drink much, but when I do it's usually gin...

Whateveryoulike · 13/04/2019 21:30

You’re not alone. I’m 59 and only discovered it about 2 months ago Hmm

Greeborising · 13/04/2019 21:31

You are all absolutely U beyond all reason!
All those wasted years!

Jumbo2000 · 13/04/2019 21:33

It’s beyond disgusting! Tastes like perfume. How on earth can you drink it? Gin yuk

bilbodog · 13/04/2019 21:35

Wonderful stuff - luckily i decided it was my drink of choice when i was 21 😁😁

NoFancyUserName · 13/04/2019 21:36

YABU. Why only just?
Been drinking it for yrs, since my mid-20s. Friends & family scoffed at what an old lady I was because I preferred a g&t to a WKD / Jeigerbomb / some other shit alcopop

But noooow.... now it's fuckin' trendy. And they've all jumped on the bloody gin bandwagon haven't they!

HostessTrolley · 13/04/2019 21:54

I like sloe gin but have never tried any other type. What would be a good gin for a newbie to try?

ridiculousridiculousness · 13/04/2019 22:28

Pink gin is definitely ftw in our house tonight!

I'm 48 and never even tried it

hmwhatsmynameagain · 13/04/2019 22:42

Granny got me drinking gin at 17 as an aperitif before dinner when I lived with her

JustAWaferThinMint · 13/04/2019 22:47

I was practically weaned on gin! Much mockery was made in my student years for my supposed old lady habits.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 13/04/2019 22:49

Tried it again due to it being trendy. Still as rank as.I remembered.

ExplodingCarrots · 13/04/2019 22:59

Yep I was one of them 'I hate gin , it's disgusting ' but then my friend asked had I tasted any flavoured gin. She forced a rhubarb and ginger gin on me and now I'm hooked. Blood orange gin is now my fave Grin

Vandree · 13/04/2019 23:13

I only found gin a year ago. Now I am an aficionado of all things gin. The tonic makes it, up to last year I only ever tried it with slimline schwepps which is gross. I had the most delicious gin and tonic at a hens last year and I was hooked. Fever tree tonic, grapefruit slices and hendricks gin or elderflower tonic, cucumber with dingle gin. Last summer dh and I went to a hotel where the bar had 10 different types of gin drinks, we tried them all and were very merry indeed. Couldn't decide my favourite because they all were.

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 13/04/2019 23:14

Gin is rough, tonic is worse. I only like sloe gin, preferably home made blow your socks off but tastes like grown up ribena type stuff, in too large a measure preferably in front of a fire.

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 13/04/2019 23:15

Now rum on the other hand.....

wowfudge · 13/04/2019 23:16

I love gin and tonic. My mistake was introducing DP to it instead of keeping it for myself.

CointreauVersial · 13/04/2019 23:18

I've been a gin drinker for years. Ahead of the curve, me.

SheisMammyof2 · 13/04/2019 23:22

But the pink gin being served now in fishbowl glasses with pieces of fruit and exotic flavoured tonics is a totally different animal to the shudder Cork Dry Gin and Schweppes tonic we were served in the 90s. I swore my whole life I hated gin until my friend persuaded me to try one of the new versions. I am a convert! 😁

5foot5 · 13/04/2019 23:56

In my younger days I disliked it but tried it again (to be polite when with PILs) in my mid-20s and discovered my tastes must have changed because I rather liked it.

These days with gin having "a moment" there are so many really nice ones around. Currently my favourite is actually from Aldi! It is called Needle. Think it's made in the Black Forest. Mind you I will be hacked off if all you gin loving mumsnetters empty the shelves of it so perhaps I should have shut up......
