To think restaurants are freezing cold these days??

Why are restaurants freezing cold? Is it part of a cunning master plan?

"Apparently, restaurant owners and managers have realised that if people are very cold, one of two things will happen: you’ll eat faster to get out of there quicker, or you’ll order more food to warm yourself up. Or, if they’re lucky, you’ll do both. According to Prevention, “German researchers found that lowering the temperature of a dining room by 10 degrees boosted food consumption nearly 20 percent. Apparently the hormones that control your appetite are slower to kick in when the temperature drops.”

I agree. I think too many places, not just restaurants, use too much aircon. I hate being cold, and end up wearing several layers when I eat out.

DameSquashalot · 08/04/2019 21:46

When we were on holiday the air was turned up way too high. The food went cold before I finished eating.

WatershedMoment · 08/04/2019 21:47

Yes, agreed. Last 4 meals Ive been to have been freezing. They have all been part of large US chains (F&Bs, TGIs etc). Wondered if it was deliberate after reading this.

Nope. Most are too warm. Main reason I tend to take out instead of eating in the restaurant.

DameSquashalot · 08/04/2019 21:47

air con

HirplesWithHaggis · 08/04/2019 21:48

I went into a chain restaurant on a beautiful hot sunny day, when I was dressed appropriately for the weather. The air con was so cold I left before ordering. Guess they got their table back fast.

CaptainButtock · 08/04/2019 21:48

Opposite for me. I find most restaurants and shops over-heated to an extent that makes me feel ill

megletthesecond · 08/04/2019 21:49

If it's cold it plays havoc with my IBS and I'll eat far less than I've planned.

WatershedMoment · 08/04/2019 21:51

Was so cold today in chain restaurant we left to go to local caff for coffee to warm up.

I noticed this the last two times we are out, but wondered if it was just me. I can't bear being cold so it spoiled my experience and I didn't hang around. Didn't eat more though.

WatershedMoment · 08/04/2019 21:54

I actually eat less and drink less cos can't wait to get out.

I noticed a trend 2-3 years ago. But what I do is leave or tell them I won't be coming back and the reason why....seems generally to make them realise

WatershedMoment · 08/04/2019 22:17

Yes, Im sure further than 2-3 years ago, restaurants used to be warmer.
