To think that the MN In The News section is more tabloid than the Sun these days?

I'm thinking in particular of the latest Victoria Beckham thread which is really quite awful, but there is the Britney thread, plus a Jade Goody thread and a Charlotte Church thread. This stuff isn't news it is gossip of the worst kind and it just seems to be posted so that everyone can be really bitchy and nasty.

I know that there have always been threads like these in the news section, but they seem so much more common these days and there are less and less real news threads. It is very sad that even MN has dumbed down to such an extent.

I read all the mags like ok magazine etc and i read the Sun and News of the World. I wouldnt call them dumbed down, just because i have no interest in The Financial Times doesnt mean i dont have a brain. I have a life which can be stressful at times with 2 kids who have special needs and i like to relax by reading things like this. I have no interest in certain sections of mumsnet but i dont come on and call them dumbed down.

OK, pruners. Next time I see something interesting in the press, I'll put a link to it. No point in just moaning about it, is there?

2mum - no offence meant, I'm sure, It's just that some of us do read the FT, Guardian etc and also want our interests catered for on MN. That's OK, surely? The section in question is called "In the news". That's a pretty broad category, with room for everyone's interests, I should hope.

OK, here is the link to the Newsnight Review discussion I mentioned earlier.

Your right oldiemum, a mixture of both is the key!
