To expect adults to thank children when they have done something good

My DS aged 4 has recently learned to ride a bike. I have told him that when he rides on the pavement he has to give way to pedestrians if the path gets too narrow. He is very good at doing this so it infuriates me when adults don't bother to acknowledge his consideration.

They'll soon moan at the poor thing when he doesn't give way to them tho'! Like most things in life people are always ready to criticise yet reluctant to praise.
