To ask you to check my stitches...?

This is very sad.

Am a LP, toddler too little to helpful with this. Stitches are on my back (suspected melanoma biopsy last week).

Can’t see properly in the mirror to check, so have done some odd yoga contortions to take a pic (with and without flash).... could ask a colleague tomorrow but have a big meeting first thing in the morning so don’t really want to mention it when everyone under pressure and mind on the project

So... could you please have a look for me?!

TIA

Sorry haven’t told you what I’m asking Blush do they look infected to you?

To my untrained eye they look absolutely fine.

QuestionableMouse · 03/04/2019 23:29

They look a bit sore but not infected to me. Do they feel hot? Are they on your back?

Dera1234 · 03/04/2019 23:30

They look a bit red but nothing horrendous I can see. Are they sore at all? Do you feel fluey?

butterflykiss00 · 03/04/2019 23:30

I would say they look ok, not infected but a bit red x

DonutsLikeFannys · 03/04/2019 23:31

Little bit red but looks fine. If there's pain, discharge or heat then get it checked I think.

FermatsTheorem · 03/04/2019 23:31

Not a medic, so not going to comment (beyond to say no sign of redness, particularly no sign of redness extending beyond the suture line).

Do you want to maybe say a bit more about why you think they might be infected (have got more painful, hot to the touch, you're running a temperature/shivering/just generally feeling crap and flu-ey?) so that when someone with actual medical expertise shows up they've got a bit more to go on?

Aquamarine1029 · 03/04/2019 23:34

The look 100% normal. No need to worry.

TheSheepofWallSt · 03/04/2019 23:34

I feel okay generally - a bit warm but I’m working late and am shattered so that’s not unusual.

I think I was just worried because I could feel one of them pricking, and when I reached around to “unsnag” it from my t shirt, they were quite painful.

I’ve had mastitis and thought I was dying, so I know what a proper infection feels like- and I know it’s not that Smile

Thank you for all being very kind

Are they due to be removed?
They look as if they are; a bit tight.

TheSheepofWallSt · 03/04/2019 23:37

@oldandwornout

The wound has been too tightly stitched I think. They were horribly painful most of last week and the flesh felt awfully tight- like I couldn’t bend in case they ruptured.

They’re dissolvable, so should be out on their own ...

gamerchick · 03/04/2019 23:41

They look fine to me. A bit tight and scabbed up but not infected.

Sidge · 03/04/2019 23:41

They look absolutely fine to me. (Practice nurse)

As much as I can tell from a photo anyway. Not infected, not too tight. Unusual to put soluble sutures in that type of wound though.

You could ask your PN to trim them, they might not prick so much then.

TheSheepofWallSt · 03/04/2019 23:45

Thank you all- super helpful and v kind :)

Go to your GP or practice nurse and ask for them to be removed.
