Text vs texted

I am going to be unreasonable and announce that the past tense of “text” is “texted”!

I believe texted is correct but agree it sounds wrong! I always think it should be text, like slept not sleeped, but texted is right I think.

How can it be anything but "texted"? I text him yesterday" sounds awful

It's texted.

The past tense of run isn't runned. The past tense of sing isn't singed.

The plural of fish is fish. The plural of deer is deer

So actually we're all wrong and it should really be 'I taxt you multiple text'?

She hitted me.
They beated me at chess.
The tickets costed too much.
I liked swimming, but I quitted when it got too cold.

Just a few words that end in 't' and don't take 'ed' to form simple past tense. Text could be the same.
