I am moving to Southport next week - glad I am missing all this malarkey!

filchthemildmanneredjanitor · 12/07/2007 09:50

they do it every year schneebly-march to the train staion, go to southport and spend the day getting pissed! and then come home again with a little march at the end.

it's not like the belfast marches( well i suppose it is in a way!) but not antagonistic. they have kids dressed up as king billy nad a may queen type thing.

schneebly · 12/07/2007 09:53

basically a big excuse to get pissed! DH is in Southport already - I will warn him!

filchthemildmanneredjanitor · 12/07/2007 09:53

yes basically

stoppinattwo · 12/07/2007 11:48

Damn, I forgot. am in Belfast and I've run out of milk.

Piffle · 12/07/2007 12:00

apparently Drumcree went off peacefully this year?

Bloody marching season at all [groan]

TransfiguratingLily · 12/07/2007 12:10

Haven't a clue how drumcree went
Though I know some people who would be hating it all, some who would be there fully enjoying it, and some people there to 'observe' it.
I just ignore it like many a prod.

I'm loving that image of a disney parade where Sleeping Beauty beats up The Beast and then Beauty slaps her back whilst Prince Charming marches around in a bowler hat and wearing an orange sash........

stoppinattwo · 12/07/2007 15:03

it was early and i was in a good mood at the time

My granny used to boast about throwing pepper in the eyes of the Orange marchers in L'pool

dobbysayswoof · 12/07/2007 15:29

Yeah, Aimsmum, that about sums it up round here too.
I will never forget being stranded on a bus at Bridgeton Cross during a massive Walk when I was about 18. Scary stuff.

They should wake up and join the 21st century.

my grandad (who was irish) used to get forced as a child to do the orange march in liverpool

stoppinattwo · 12/07/2007 17:22

Are they really that bad in Liverpool...............in all the years I have seen them march I have never seen any trouble?

It looked today like it was just a parade, all the kids were dressed up, all the bands were playing.

Oh SA2 aren't I glad to be missing it - any if I remember most of them are pi**ed before they start marching as their club place opp the office has the bar open early!!! I dont like the kids all getting the day off school and getting dressed up - they have no idea what it all stands for! Anyway, where do they all go when the adults are on the booze cruise of S'port??!!

Hope they all got wet today!!
