Cleaning then taking dog out

I was at a regular clients house this week cleaning. I have never met them (it’s through an agency) but I have a key & let myself in.
At the end of the clean their dog was really whining at the back door - it was mid afternoon & I had no idea what time the home owners would be back.
I couldn’t let it out in the garden because it is a beautiful communal garden & I had no idea what the rules are.
I couldn’t leave the poor dog so I took it for a walk. Within 2-3 minutes the poor thing obviously had an upset stomach which I cleared up.
I left the client a note - kinda jokey explaining what I’d done & signed off ‘ just to warn you in case you come home to a mess !’
Obviously this is completely outside my job description but as a dog lover I couldn’t leave the dog whining.
I did expect a thank you text but I’ve not heard a thing !
AIBU to have expected a quick message ?

That was such a kind thing to do. I always feel sorry for dogs left on their own although sometimes there is no choice. Some people are just not that nice not to thank you in any way.

I do my texts later at night when I get chance to sit down I don’t raally have time during the day tbh, I’ve give it til tonight or tomorrow

YABU. You don't do a nice thing in order to be thanked for it. You do it because it's the right thing to do.

And as others have said, it's most likely that any thank you would be left for you next time you go, in the way that you left them a note rather than sending a text.

They may be embarrassed, busy or they may want to thank you by leaving you a gift on your next visit, we are all different.

I agree with others what you did was a good deed, the dog was fortunate to have you.

Maybe we are all different but if the roles had been reversed I would have sent a quick message. It’s called politeness.
This was last Tuesday.
I’ll see if there’s any acknowledgment when I go this week.

Even if they want to leave you something as thanks, it's rude not to say thank you by text. I can only imagine that they missed the message.

I'm going to be in the minority here...but you shouldn't have took the dog out what if something would have happened? If it shit on the floor in the house not your problem. I would have been majorly pissed off if that was my dog.

@MardyMavis - what could have possibly have happened? I put it on a lead a didn’t let it off.
If they were/are pissed off then they should have communicated that to me & then I would tell them I’m not working for them anymore.
World gone fucking crazy if you’d be pissed off because you’d rather have shit everywhere.

@yearinyearout - they have my number because they’ve sent previous messages regarding keys etc.

Well I would of been grateful personally dogs need to be able to get out during the day... I would of sent you a message to thank you as well that's just rude imo but then again I'm a firm believer that dogs need access to the outdoors during the day if your going to work... I'm a human and I cant hold my pee in that long never mind a dog...

So went to clean today & nothing - no note or anything except very bizarrely a poo bag right where I left the note last week 😂. I’m going to assume it’s just coincidence & accept some people are just strange!
I’d do it again it’s not the dogs fault & I’m happy I’m a nice person 🐶🐶

If I was a cleaner I’d find it quite odd that the people were out and the dog was left at home. Do they leave him all day? You were very kind to take him out, btw.

They should have acknowledged you taking the dog out. Some people just don't think unfortunately.

They should have acknowledged what you did of course but the dog would have been grateful and that's what matters.
Maybe you could ask if they want you to add on a walk for the dog when you're finished..if you want to of course and at the going rate!

Possibly they came home to a huge disgusting mess of dog diarrhea and couldn't even tell whether you'd been or not, and were wondering whether you sent the message to cover the fact you'd walked in and straight back out last week...
