To think 'shaped' chocolate tastes different and better?

Was in Lidl the other day and they had some of the big bunnies in the cellophane bags on offer because they were all broken. I got one and it was delicious and tasted better than a lidl bar. Anyone else find this too?

Yes! I'm sure I read that it's something to do with surface area to taste bud ratio.

CandyCreeper · 24/03/2019 12:03

Yes easter eggs always taste better, I never get when people
say why by easter eggs when you can buy more regular chocolate for the same price, because easter eggs taste SOOO much better!!

Glad it's not just me! Grin

I think it has a higher fat content to make it easier to shape.

Gentlemanwiththistledownhair · 24/03/2019 12:08

I think the shape also affects how it melts in your mouth and therefore how it coats your tongue so tastes different

troppibambini · 24/03/2019 12:11

I love Easter eggs. You're right they taste so much better.

Bussells · 24/03/2019 12:12

Yes they have more fat!

Oysterbabe · 24/03/2019 12:14

They have a higher fat and sugar content.

Did the pictures post?

Oysterbabe · 24/03/2019 12:15

Yes, I couldn't see them at first.

Sciurus83 · 24/03/2019 12:16

I think it tastes worse!

theonetowalkinthesun · 24/03/2019 12:17

And I've always thought the chocolate in Easter eggs is way worse and couldn't understand why because I love normal chocolate!
So I'm like you PPs but the other way round!

bringincrazyback · 24/03/2019 12:19

I definitely think Easter egg chocolate tastes way better than bars of the same chocolate, mind you I'm fussy about the texture and mouth feel of chocolate. Grin

dreamalittlebiggerdarling · 24/03/2019 12:29

This is very illuminating! I’ve said for years that easter eggs and Xmas chocolate baubles taste better than normal chocolate and nobody believed me. I feel vindicated!

dancemom · 24/03/2019 12:33

They add a lot of oil (palm oil usually) to make the chocolate easier to mould

Pinkyponkcustard · 24/03/2019 12:40

And the oil helps with the satisfying crack when you open it

SimonitesSocks · 24/03/2019 13:37

Ah, that's what it is. I have a friend who can't wait for Easter eggs in the shops, although, AFAIK, he doesn't eat chocolate during the rest of the year. It must be the taste difference!

StrawberrySquash · 24/03/2019 13:49

Those pics are different in terms of fat and sugar because the egg is per 36g and the bar per 30g.
I have no idea what the 'Each 36g contains Per 100g' is! Given it's only 100 and something calories it's clearly not per 100g. That would be about 500 cal.
