Me and my fiance bought a house together a year ago , we spent all our money on the deposit that it has taken us a while to get things we need ie a dinning set

We decided to hold of and buy the things we really want rather than replacing them
Later down the line .

He got a bonus in work so we decided to splash out on a dining set and chairs we both liked different sets and they were both equally as expensive over 1k in the end I gave up and let him have his way it was his money and it was still a nice set

I came home today to it sitting in the kitchen and it's huge ! A six seater and it makes the kitchen look so much smaller which is the nicest room in the house

It's only the two of us we have no kids and yes that may change in the future which is what he was thinking of but a four would suit the room so much better

We can't return it it's opened but I'm so annoyed I have to move it or squeeze past someone if I want to sit down how can I compromise!!

It will be great for entertaining

SimonJT · 23/03/2019 17:34

Sturdy enough for sex?

Poppyputthekettleon · 23/03/2019 17:36

Didn't you look at the measurements before you bought it? I don't think you can really be cross about it as it's not like he bought it without showing you.

notacooldad · 23/03/2019 17:37

Sell it on a local fb page?

Aquamarine1029 · 23/03/2019 17:37

I would be very irritated. I HATE a cluttered space. It's so uncomfortable.

FiveShelties · 23/03/2019 17:39

Have you actually asked if you could exchange it?

RebootYourEngine · 23/03/2019 17:56

What does your dp think of the table and the kitchen now the table is in there?

FineWordsForAPorcupine · 23/03/2019 17:59

Four seaters aren't really big enough for four people, regardless of what they claim.

Soubriquet · 23/03/2019 18:01

Over 1k for a table ShockShock

I hope it cooks for you Grin

Is there any way you can put it so it doesn’t drown the kitchen?

sirmione16 · 23/03/2019 18:10

I hate to be that person but I would've measured and measured again...

However it may look huge now at first, but you'll likely get used to it then when it's gone it'll feel empty

BlackPrism · 23/03/2019 18:13

We have a 6 seater that folds and it only cost £160... that could've worked.and yes, but crazy not to triple check measurements.

I've also never heard of not being able to return an opened table before.

But, if not it's done now - annoying but as others have said, great for entertaining and sex!

Samind · 23/03/2019 18:16

Could you reorganise it against a wall so it's not sticking out?

gamerchick · 23/03/2019 18:17

Well he gets the job of doing most of the cooking then. Make him use the kitchen until getting rid of the table is his idea.

BlueJava · 23/03/2019 18:20

If you really hate it just write off most of the value and sell it then forget it. Lessoned learned - measure well next time and check it!

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 23/03/2019 18:31

I don't really think it's his fault. The dimensions should have been checked before being bought and both of you could have done that, especially considering it's a six person table.

Strawberryshortcake28 · 23/03/2019 19:56

He loves it thinks it's perfect fit he measured it and is happy with it

I just think its too much and ruins my dream kitchen gr rrr

Wow you are rich.

KeptTheBeachesShipwreckFree · 23/03/2019 20:19

A table for over a grand? Shock What's it made of? Ours is a 6 seater solid wood and only cost £300!
Push it up against one side of the room so you only use half of it and it doesn't take up so much space, that's what we have done. It comes in useful for parties and Christmas etc.

safariboot · 23/03/2019 20:31

Don't worry, in a few days he'll say "Well why don't I put it in the garage and I can use it for my {hobby}" - like he planned on all along. Grin

Princessmushroom · 23/03/2019 20:44

Wow, I wish this was the biggest problem in my life right now

badg3r · 23/03/2019 20:45

Let any future kids eat Spag Bol with metal cutlery at it from an early age and you can replace it in a few years 😜
