...curious about how the media label certain people

I was reading that the former Sunderland footballer, Adam Johnson, who served 3 years for engaging in sexual activity with a 15 yo was released today.

A few days ago I as reading an article, from the same media outlet, about the Radford family from 21 kids and counting.

The footballer was referred to as a paedophile throughout the article but the father from 21 kids, who was 18 when he impregnated a 13 year old, was referred to in a very positive light with no negative labelling.

I don't know which is worse an 18 yo shagging a 13 yo or a 27 yo shagging a 15 yo, probably doesn't matter both are absolutely vile imo, but it does get me thinking on how the media chooses to label people and how some disgusting people seem to get off lightly?

Any thoughts? Slow work day for me...

You need the correct definition of paedophile for a start, it is someone who is attracted to prepubescent children. Neither a 15 nor a 13yo are (usually) prepubescent.

With the Radfords, I believe she was 14 and he was 17, the baby born when he was 18. You might like to look up 'Romeo and Juliet laws' which are common world wide, where between the ages of 12 and 18, with a 5 year differential it is quite common for countries - including several of our Eu partners to allow realtionships like this.

You also have to look at the intent. Famous 27yo exercising power and control over a school girl - or two kids in care, looking to each other to create a family unit.

Which one do you think is the abuser?

Europe: Spain previously had the lowest age of consent in Europe, but raised it from 13 to 16 in 2013, bringing it in line with the UK, Russia, the Netherlands, Norway, Finland and Belgium. Children as young as 14 are considered able to consent to sex in Germany, Austria, Hungary, Italy and Portugal. By contrast, the age of consent is much higher in Malta and Turkey, at 18.

Technically Johnson is an ephebophile more than a paedophile if anything, easier for the media to say paedophile though I would guess.

Plain

thanks for the info.

I rechecked and the Radford's were 13 and 17 when the first was conceived and 14 and 18 when born. I still find it disgusting that a 17yo would look to a 13 yo to 'create a family unit' regardless of his own start in life.
