AIBU to want this on Mother's Day?

We asked you what you'd like to happen on Mother's Day.

  • 90% of you said you wanted a lie in past 8am
  • 37% wanted something home-made from your child
  • 55% just wanted 1-3 hours of alone time (although about half didn't get any!)

Is that fair? What would you like to happen in your house for Mother's Day?

For MNHQ not to show such twee nonsense as this.

kaytee87 · 22/03/2019 13:38

@MillyCoddler of course mumsnet should just be about serious business Hmm

I'd like some bunches of daffodils and breakfast made for me.

MillyCoddler · 22/03/2019 13:41

That isn't what I said. The video is cringe-makingly twee. But if you like it ...

LEELULUMPKIN · 22/03/2019 13:50

For my 14 year old DS to say "Mum" He has SEN and is totally non verbal. I'm not greedy, just once would last me a life time.

kaytee87 · 22/03/2019 13:52

@MillyCoddler what video?

kaytee87 · 22/03/2019 13:53

@LEELULUMPKIN Thanks

timeisnotaline · 22/03/2019 13:56

Can’t read it on phone with that video.

LEELULUMPKIN · 22/03/2019 13:56

Thanks Kaytee87 (sorry don't know how to highlight) your flowers brought tears to my eyes. Some days are just harder than others, but heyho, that is the same for each and everyone of us on here x

penguingorl · 22/03/2019 16:45

A bfp!

And yes, the video is very twee, and not to my taste either!

BusterGonad · 22/03/2019 17:17

All I ever wanted was to be the MUM on Mother's Day, but no, it was always about the bloody MIL! I sound sour but we always had to put her needs first! Not any more though as we live too far away!

BusterGonad · 22/03/2019 17:18

Oh, and what would I like? I'd like to have cups of tea made for me and a nice cake! Not a lot but that would make me happy!

John470322 · 22/03/2019 17:37

@LEELULUMPKIN you put all the nonsense into perspective, thank you and your DS is lucky to have a mum who loves his so totally

TheHorseYouRodeInOn · 22/03/2019 17:48

It was Mother's Day a few days after I gave birth to my IVF baby. My husband got me a Mother's Day card. It's very precious to me and I still have it, she's 29 now 😊

Itsallamysterytome · 22/03/2019 20:58

This is the first year that I am the family matriarch. My mum died in December and my MIL over ten years ago.

I don't want it to be that way. Those two beautiful, strong, amazing women are so missed.

PolarBearDisguisedAsAPenguin · 22/03/2019 21:00

I’d like my youngest daughter with me.

HMBB · 22/03/2019 21:11

I would like them to change the clocks a different weekend so I actually get a lie in!

dontgobaconmyheart · 23/03/2019 06:10

I know this is the opposite of the point of this; but I would really just like to be able to spend it with my mum and sadly won't be. I'm seriously unwell and I know just knowing she was there would lessen how scary that is, even when you're an adult yourself!
Will be thinking of all those surviving on no sleep this mothers day, all those also without a mum, all those who just spend the day appreciating theirs, and those who are estranged for which it can be a painful day even if you did get your sleep! Flowers

MillyCoddler · 23/03/2019 06:22

ImNotTheDramaLlamaHere · 23/03/2019 06:27

For Mother's Day to be about me...
not my mum, not my mil.
(They've had it for 30+ years!)

I'm also really looking forward to my kids being old enough to choose presents themselves for me!

Jeschara · 23/03/2019 09:14

A nice card will do for me. I know my daughter will be looking forward to a home made card from my Grandson.

NutElla5x · 23/03/2019 13:42

A couple of years ago my grown up son, who at the time was out of work and who I was having a few problems with made me a lovely card with the most beautiful words in it. It meant so much more than any of the cards my kids had been forced to make at school and was better than any present. So I'd like more homemade cards, tea and toast in bed and my own mum well enough so as I can take spoil her on the day.

TheOxymoron · 23/03/2019 13:45

I would be happy with just a nice dream of my son.
He was my only child, my everything and I lost him to cancer.

BusterGonad · 23/03/2019 15:51

I'm so sorry Oxy, I can't imagine anything worse that what you've been through. Thanks

Alsohuman · 23/03/2019 15:54

I’d like an hour in a garden centre with tea and cake and my mum next to me. If only there were miracles - or a time machine.

PinkGinFreak · 23/03/2019 16:10

I wish this bloody video would go away it's obscuring most of my screen.
I would live a day of being copley Ely selfish and not having to do anything for anyone else, no washing up, no meals to make, no clothes to sort and no shitty bums to wipe, either children or dogs. That would be bliss!
