To ask what on earth a bored SAHM can do?!

4 month old baby. Cold and rainy outside. Only ideas are to go shopping but I go at least twice a week and my bank account needs a rest!

Any tips before I lose my mind?!

Museum? Library and choose some books?

Ummm. Book onto an exercise class/ baby sensory type class. Browse / visit travel agent for holiday. Make list for Xmas stuff. Cuddle the baby, sniff its head and watch Netflix! Also stuck in the house with a little one today so I get you. Am tidying up ready for estate agent tho.

Can you join a mother's group? Or invite some friends with babies around for a cuppa?
Also, start working on a hobby, one that you can stop and start easily when baby needs you eg polymer clay, painting, sewing, etc
Listen to audiobooks etc

Take the baby swimming? Mine loved being in the water from about that age

(And it doesn’t matter that it’s wet outside for swimming!)

Even just take yourself out for a coffee to give yourself an outing for the day. Still spending money, but not big bucks.

The get stuck into Netflix.

I miss mat leave.

Swimming! And then he will have a lovely nap afterwards so you will have a bit of free time too!

Find a playgroup. They're not just for kids, they're to save the sanity of mothers of babies.

Same position here, thinking about driving to Starbucks drive through (miles away) so I don't have to get out the car but ds will nap in the car! Oh the glamour.
Also have dogs to walk so will have to wait for a break in the weather and put ds in the pram

Garden centre? Wonder around indoors and get inspired for spring?

Do some baking? Cake is always good. And you'll feel like a domestic goddess!

Depends what you're into. What do you normally like doing?
I've just started making mosaics. They're pretty simple when you get the hang of it and don't have to take too long. You get a nice picture/ornament at the end of it too so its win win!

I found the Hoop app pretty handy for finding out about local mum/baby activities

The local library was a godsend for me. They had some baby classes (about £1 contribution) before lunchtime so by the time we'd walked there, attended the class and come home, we both had a lovely nap.

On a day like today, Netflix and cuddle baby. Possibly get something nice deliveroo'd for lunch when baby asleep.

Start going through your drawers and cupboards ruthlessly. Just one at a time. Addictive and extremely satisfying. Ring a friend and arrange an impromptu lunch/ picnic somewhere unusual, go into a town and visit a museum.

If you are near London I can give you way more suggestions for free entertainment.

Also, enjoy just doing nothing before they're at an age where they destroy the toy collection just by looking at it and laugh at their own trumps and burps (yes DS, you)

I have driven around our local forrest listening to a podcast! Nice views and a nap for baby and I get to hear myself think and get a break from Peppa... I really don't like Peppa

Baby massage class, baby sensory, clear stuff out in your house, organise the too small clothes and next size up, start planning/buy things you'll need for weaning at around 6 months (high chair, sleeved bibs, spoons, bowls, sippy cups, small pots with lids - poundshops sometimes have Nuby ones), get the next few birthday presents and cards organised, do a spring clean of the house, batch cook, read a book...

(FWIW I never had time to do any of this stuff and could never understand anyone saying they were bored on maternity leave as I was so busy, stressed and tired, but I think I just had a really difficult/poorly baby! I can see with fresh eyes now that some friends have their second that actually some babies can be quite laid back . But some of these are things I always had on my never-ending to do list).

There will be all sorts of different baby classes in your local area, from baby massage, water babies, to baby sign language, you can ask your health visitor for details of the local Mother and Toddler groups. There will also be more active classes like buggy fit , your local leisure centre should have details. As mentioned already, the library, the garden centre and if you have a park near you that has winter gardens you could go there. Local museums or art galleries? Sometimes our local science centre holds a sensory event for Mums and babies using bubbles and lights etc.

Thinking back to when mine were small. Playgroups. Library. Ikea for a free coffee with a family card .

I don’t remember ever ever being bored at any stage when my children were born, and now they are 11 and 14. You must have a easy baby and a daily cleaner.
When I wasn’t washing, cleaning and playing and feeding my baby, I was busy shopping, gardening and keeping on top of the paperwork.
