to ask how/where you met your partner?

I always end up in semi-long term (1-3 year) relationships with horrid, abusive men. I've met them either on OLD or through mutual friends.

I'm now single with a baby because I left my abusive ex and wondering if I'll ever meet anyone who actually loves and wants me without the need to control everything I do.

Out of curiosity, if you're happy, how did you meet your partner? How did you know they were the one? I feel like I'm destined to be with abusive men...

We met as teenagers at college.
I knew he was 'the one' when I realised that I couldn't imagine my life without him, all plans for the future were with him, and that he was my best friend as well as my DH.

A lot of my other friends have met their partners through a hobby, like a sports club or drama group.

Through OLD and took it slowly due to ex cheating leaving me with trust issues and 6 years later we are still together he just sort of grew on me over time

We are high school sweethearts. We met on the first day of secondary school, we friends for a few years and then got together in sixth form.

We’ve grown together and I very quickly realised he was the one. We’re in our thirties now and I couldn’t be happier

At the gym. A friend of mine had met a guy at the gym, and said he had a single friend. I went along with it, not interested at all, but just as a wing man. Spoke for a few minutes outside the gym, he then added me on Facebook, messaged for about 3 weeks, when I finally agreed to go out for a drink with him (I really wasn’t looking to get into anything, my husband had only moved out a month before) was planning on cancelling an hour before the date, but was talked into it.

Been together nearly 8 years now.

Met current dh (he’s my second marriage) on OLD. We’re very happy and have a dd

XH - in the pub as teenagers, 1980s
DH - at work, 2000s. Just knew. Been together 18 years.

At work he was my equal! Both teachers working abroad.

He isn't a player, he is respectful to everyone, he doesn't lie, he isn't sexist, he's hardworking, hands on with the DC.

I had to kiss a fair few frogs, but I learnt where my boundaries lie. We've been together 20 years.

In a strip club, we both worked there. He was security, I was a dancer. Relationships between staff are fairly common in the industry, especially in strip clubs as each knows the score.

We've been together 7 years, married for 5.

He wasn't/isnt interested in being smutty or sleazy, just wanted to keep everyone safe. He's kind, has no secret agenda and is a genuinely honest man. I knew when I met him that he was special, had a few conversations and told my friend "I'm going to marry him one day" didn't get together till a year later.

Not a usual place to find a life partner though granted.

In a bar on night out. Assumed most people do but understand it's not as common as I thought!

New Year’s Eve party - DH is school friend of now-BIL. I just saw him and was like ‘oh! There you are! 😍’ been married almost 7 years.

Glastonbury festival, met in the crowd watching the Chems and spent all weekend together. We both went home 200 miles apart and 6 weeks later he moved up here. That was 11 years ago.
