... to think that Live Earth is a stupid and hypocritical idea?

I've not heard of it until I've just switched the TV on tonight.

So, to raise awareness about each individual caring for the environment and to remind us that it's the little things that count (switching off lights, making less journeys etc.) they decide to put on a massive worldwide concert, with an incredible amount of electric equipment and lighting. They get thousands and thousands of people to travel to these concerts, all the bands, all their equipment needs to be moved to the concerts.

It just doesn't make sense.

it came to me - i bought lovely 4x4

SueBaroo · 09/07/2007 17:04

Publicising what, though? Change your lightbulbs, plebs. Use the bus, unworthy ones.

Kiss my fat furry arse, sanctimonious pop-twonks.

LoveAngel · 09/07/2007 17:56

These things make me puke, to be honest. Anything involving Madonna is especially annoying. I've gone right off her.

LordPan · 09/07/2007 19:33

So, we're all agreed then.

Mamamoor · 09/07/2007 20:00

I couldn't watch it cos it made me so mad - DH had to drag me from the room!. SueBaroo has hit the nail on the head for me. I am totally amased that supposed intelligent people would think that staging something on a worldwide scale with all the unecological issues involved would be a good idea!!! Was the lighting energy saving, was the transport powered by love and good intentions alone, was the food packaging and other admin biodegradable - probably not!? Usual dim witted self obsessed luvvie rule of prance about and sing at something and people will give you money (to stop IMO)and it will all be OK again!!!! Rant, rant!!!

Desiderata · 09/07/2007 20:01

great rant, mamamoor

I agree entirely.

Rachmumoftwo · 09/07/2007 21:48

Madonna really annoyed me, but then she always does. Why feel the need to swear like that? She's a mum, she was dressed like a mum, she was meant to be supporting a good cause, and then she opened her stupid mouth and spoiled it. It was completely tacky and unnecessary, and made her look even more of a twt than she normally does. And I think her kids book is shte! Can you tell I'm not a fan?

policywonk · 09/07/2007 21:55

Sanctimonious Pop Twonks is a great name for a band.

Desiderata · 09/07/2007 22:03

And Bono is a twat.

Backtobasics · 09/07/2007 22:03

I am a Madonna fan but i did not like her peromance one bit. I think she has lost the plot. Where did she drag those two men playing the violin from? The F you was unnessisary and tacky, i think it was another one of her 'shock' factors, can Madonna really shock us anymore

Then there was her singing 'Hung Up', do we really need to see a 48yr old woman rubbing up against 20 something yr old lads? Or her being suggestive with a giant beat box thingy? I think not.

Then there is her saying 'it's about time we woke up and starting saving the planet,' then you look at her life style with endless jets and fancy cars and think, is this really a woman who we are going to stand up and lisen to about saving the planet?

yellowpoo · 10/07/2007 10:13

No it will not make a difference. Just like bacteria in a petri dish, we will use up all the resources of the world and die in our own waste ans excerement. Too many selfish humans to even reach through music concerts preaching a greener way.

southeastastra · 10/07/2007 10:27

it's good to see live music on tv though, live concerts seem to have been completely missed out of the schedule for a while now.

couldn't work out why they cut out some acts, like the beastie boys. foo fighters could have played for longer as well.

david baddiel having a go was quite entertaining.

Ponka · 10/07/2007 20:05

Some facts I have found.

Live Earth's Carbon footprint was equivalent to 74,500 tons of CO2.
Madonna, who headlined at Wembley, personally has a carbon footprint of 1,018 tons CO2; 92 times the average of 11 tons per year.
Stage lighting at Wembley alone used the same electricity as 10 houses (unless they actually did go with the hamsters).
It has been estimated that to transport the artists to all the events, they would between them fly the equivalent of nearly a quarter of a million miles (222,500m) - nine times the circumference of the planet.

And then there are all the televisions being used to watch it, the cars used to get there etc. Celebs- bloody hypocrites the lot of them. Saving the planet, or self-promotion?

notapushy1 · 10/07/2007 21:29

Talking as a Mum rather than an environmentalist I have
to confess that I enjoyed every second of Madonna's HEY YOU performance- because my DD was singing in the choir accompanying her! She had the most thrilling time @ rehearsals, meeting Madonna and then being on stage in front of 1000s and her excitement was something we'll never forget . Incidentally they took a coach to the Stadium rather than going separately in parents' cars...

southeastastra · 10/07/2007 21:30

is that her new single nap1 (ha) will they have lots more personal appearances

notapushy1 · 10/07/2007 21:39

AFAIK she's already released the single sans children's choir, but who knows?, Madonna could decide to do a remix or re-release! We had to sign all sorts of forms to allow them to reuse the Live Earth recordingsin other formats /contexts.
