Todays classic quote ..." it's a shame studying dosn't help you loose weight!" I'm studying hard btw atm!
Every time i go over theirs she has to menton food, weight, eating, how to loose weight. She loves to cook and eat but just seems to love commenting on weight and diet. How do i get her to shut the fuck up and enjoy my roast potatoes in peace!?

Confused
Lucked · 03/03/2019 12:08

I am confused by your post heading. Is this your stepsister?

ElfridaEtAl · 03/03/2019 12:08

Tell her to shut the fuck up and enjoy your roast potatoes Wink

cricketmum84 · 03/03/2019 12:12

Omg my MIL is exactly the same! She lost about 3 stone a few years ago after a health scare and constantly goes on and on and fucking on about how much she weighs and how much SIL weighs. She even holds up SILs clothes to show me how small they are... oooh look at the size of this size 8 too SIL bought.... pisses me right off. Especially as I am very overweight. She also likes to tell me how little she eats. I was overjoyed when they didn't come to us on Boxing Day as planned Cos it meant I could eat a sodding potato without her judgy little eyes on me.

On the other hand I've lost 2.5 stone since Christmas and she hasn't even noticed.

Some people are just obsessed with weight.
Just thank her for her concerns, however you are an adult and will be addressing it in your own time.
However continued discussion of the subject is unnecessary and then move onto another topic.
Or the classic “Did you mean to be so rude?!” 😜

Lucked · 03/03/2019 12:14

Okay makes sense.

I would probably try Grey rocking the weight comments to begin with, so vague non specific answers followed by a change of topic.

With the studying comment I would just segue onto the topic of what you are studying.

You may have to try the direct approach if that fails. Look her in the eye and tell her you don’t want to discuss weight or diets with her.

MotherofDinosaurs · 03/03/2019 12:14

This kind of bullshit is best tackled head on. People will only bully you if you give then permission. Ask her outright: you comment a lot on weight and diet around me. Do you have an issue with my weight? Do you understand that your comments make me uncomfortable.

CardsforKittens · 03/03/2019 12:16

I usually go for the absurd in these situations, e.g. “Studying does help you lose weight. I’ve lost eight stone in the last three days.” Usually the other person just stares at me, and after two or three of these kinds of responses they drop the subject. Might not work for everyone though.

You're 1 stone overweight? But how tall are you?

malificent7 · 03/03/2019 12:26

Im not in a position to loose the stone i put on over xmas as im too busy studying! Tbh i never comment on the weight of others!

Some people are like this. My MIL is weight obsessed and portion control obsessed. I just eat as much as I like and make a point of ordering pudding when we go out if I want one even though we have the disdainful 'I don't think anyone wants pudding after that meal' when the menus come round Hmm. FWIW I'm not and have never been overweight so then she's witters on about how lucky I am to have a fast metabolism no I just don't eat secretly like you do, its really wearing tbh.

malificent7 · 03/03/2019 12:40

It's just a very boring, rude obsession that endears her to precisely noone except for my dad who cannot take off his rose coloured glasses and see how rude it is.
