Hi all
Bought a chicken on Thursday, a whole one from the fridge section. Driving home there was a car accident and I was stuck in traffic for about 90 mins. I had heaters on in the car but chicken was in the boot. Put in fridge as soon as got home. Was planning cook it in slow cooker tomorrow but starting to doubt if it will be ok or should I bin and buy another? Sorry if I sound daft ha x

You'll know if it's off when you open the packaging, providing it smelled and looked ok I would cook and eat it.

Good grief yes cook it. If you have any concerns give it a lovely long simmer in plenty of sterilising curry spices. I dont have a slow cooker but I would prefer to bring it to the boil in a pan of curry ( chopped up)and give it a good 5 minutes boil before slow cooking. I wouldnt want to warm it slowly. Use your sense of smell, generally a dead giveaway with chicken

A quicker and hotter cooking time would be better if you are worried about safety.

Auramigraine · 02/03/2019 22:08

Thanks, I will give it a good sniff tomorrow. It’s already covered in some spice or another so I wouldn’t want to add anymore to it!

I wouldn't think twice, it will be fine

SpoonBlender · 02/03/2019 22:17

It'll be fine. Boots are cold.

Yes of course. You’ll know by the smell of it’s off but I can’t see why it would be

Deliqueen · 02/03/2019 22:22

What is the use by date? If you bought it on its date it could be an issue, but use your senses, smell and appearance will tell you if it's ok. Hope it's tasty!

tessiegirl · 02/03/2019 22:22

Wouldn't give this a second thought. Cook it!!

gnushoes · 02/03/2019 22:23

90 minutes? It'll be fine

Auramigraine · 02/03/2019 22:26

Thanks everyone, use by date is the 7th so that’s ok.

If you're going to smell it, open the package and let it stand for a few minutes before sniffing. They often package with a gas which smells horrid to me and has on several occasions nearly caused me to throw out perfectly good chicken, but after a few minutes it dissipates and all smells good again (well as good as raw chicken can smell).

It wasn't hot on Thursday so I would say yes and I am fussy. I work for a supermarket and you are legally allowed to keep food unrefrigerated for half an hour and, knowing how tight regulations are, I'd imagine this is very conservative anyway
