School places & scholarships.

Interested in other Mums views on this. As you know yesterday was secondary school placement confirmation day. Waiting for DDs (yr 2 & 4) after school and a few of the yr 6 Mums were saying which schools their kids had got and it seemed the majority hadn't got their first choice and were pretty fecked off. Conversation moved onto 2 Mums who's kids have been besties since infants. 1 is a single Mum, works full time, lives in a nice house drives a nice car. 2nd Mum is a stay at home Mum, Dad works in the city v. well paid, huge house & brand new Range Rovet. Both applied for scholarships on academic merit at local private school, the latter was heavily tutored, the former wasn't. 1st kid didn't get the scholarship but was offered a bursary which would cover a third of fees.
Very generous but Mum cannot afford the £12,000 remaining so kid now going to state school (outstanding). Rich kid offered a full scholarship worth £18,000 a year even though parents have said paying full fees wasn't a problem. Whilst I believe everyone deserves a fair chance I can't help agreeing with the genetal view that it seems rather unfair.

Full scholarships are very very rare. I doubt you overheard the truth.
