It’s so very sore. I e used bonjela (adult), Anbesol liquid and it’s so so sore and aching and horrible. Tried putting salt on it as recommended by a friend. They’re now off the Christmas card list - agony
Any tips? I remember years ago I had a liquid you painted on and it kind of cauterised it and the relief was immense. It was red liquid but can’t remember what it was called!

Hot salty water, certainly not applying salt directly on it

Jackshouse · 02/03/2019 18:33

I don’t know the answer but a chemist should be able to help.

They can be caused by vit B12 deficiency though.

loveskaka · 02/03/2019 18:33

Corsdyol mouth wash.

loveskaka · 02/03/2019 18:34

Will take it away in a day.

Girlinstripedpyjamas · 02/03/2019 18:35

I don’t eat meat. Maybe I’m lacking. Salt solution sounds much more sensible thank you. I’ll schlepp to the late night pharmacy if the painkillers don’t work. Was wondering if there was some magic Mumsnet remedy I didn’t know as I’ve seen everything answeres on here!

Difflam over the counter at boots (£7) expensive but numbs the pain so you can at least eat. Can get it on prescription if you need to/ don’t pay etc etc

McFrostyNuts · 02/03/2019 18:43

Iglu is brilliant.

Girlinstripedpyjamas · 02/03/2019 18:46

Frador is what I meant!! I love you! I’m ordering some regardless if when it comes just to have it in! Thank you!

You mean Frador. We get it from Amazon.

MadMillie · 02/03/2019 18:49

I dip my finger in water, then salt and apply it directly to the ulcer. It stings like mad for a minute then the pain is gone. Any ulcers I get heal really quickly after doing this.

fullprice · 02/03/2019 18:51

I suffer very badly and have tried all sorts from the conventional to the wacky.
Iglú is indeed very good. It’s a thick paste and it solidifies to create a seal.
I do take b12 to try and prevent them.

It has only just been suggested to me that I try a pro-biotic to see if that helps improve things but it’s too early for me to say.

Girlinstripedpyjamas · 02/03/2019 18:58

Local pharmacy hasn’t got it. I shall now start phoning!!

Girlinstripedpyjamas · 02/03/2019 18:59

Iglu might be easier to get until then thanks

Please get checked for a B12 deficiency. I used to get really bad mouth ulcers that got worse after I went veggie. They finally figured out it was due to a B12 deficiency so now I get injections every 3 months and I barely get ulcers anymore!

HoldOnToHope · 02/03/2019 19:01

Any time I have an ulcer, I gargle with warm salt water before bed and it's totally gone by the time I wake up.

NotANotMan · 02/03/2019 19:02

Thanks for the tips, I haven't tried those creams.

Does your toothpaste contain SLS? I switched to a SLS free brand (sensodyne) and it made a HUGE difference, I don't get many now but when I do, I use steroid tablets that I get on prescription from the GP

Valkarie · 02/03/2019 19:08

I have bought frador in boots before. It's brilliant stuff

Mumof3dogs · 02/03/2019 19:24

Corsydyl mouth wash frequently and some ibuprofen every 6 hrs or so

IndigoSpritz · 02/03/2019 19:40

Squeeze the juice from a fresh garlic clove into the ulcer. It will sting and smell but the ulcer will be history very quickly. Alternatively, make a paste with a soluble aspirin and warm water and apply a little to the ulcer. A bit stingy to begin with but will kill the pain quickly.

AlrightTreacle · 02/03/2019 20:05

I get mouth ulcers all the time, love these:

Tiggs335 · 02/03/2019 21:23

I feel for you op. I get major ones which last for weeks and they're so painful. There used to be some fantastic ointment called Adcortyl in orabase which cleared them up in no time but it's not produced anymore Sad
Iglu will provide a protective coating but there's nothing in it to promote healing. Corsodyl mouthwash is the only thing which seems to help. Hope it clears up soon.
