Teaching a 6 month old to put the dummy in

Who is being unreasonable...?

Nearly 7 month old needs a dummy to sleep.

Can sleep well with dummy in for long periods but will cry and need it replaced in the night.

At what age does a baby learn to not pull dummy out / replace on their own in the night?

By leaving them crying when they want their dummy as they 'learning' not to pull it out themselves and to keep replacing it?

Mine was in sleep bags and I’d tie the dummy on a little bit of string (long enough to reach mouth, no longer so not a hazard) and little one picked up fast that it hadn’t gone anywhere. Also worked brilliantly for temper tantrums where the dummy used to be thrown in a rage lol couldn’t get rid of it so i didn’t spend ages searching for it

DD was 18 months before she'd do it herself at night. Until then, she'd wake us multiple times a night to replace it. We kept 10 of them dotted around the cot in the hope that her flailing arms would find one, but she resolutely refused to sort it herself.

We stopped giving DS one at night at around a year (he refused it for a few nights while he had a cold, and we took the opportunity to make them disappear). He had never learned to replace them himself.

Dummy clips, my boys 6 months and can get his in and out but doesn't tend to bother in the night time but hes still next to me so not such an issue at the moment

I really wouldn’t be doing anything with strings.

I used to leave a spare one in sight. But 3 out of 4 of mine sucked their thumbs —and getting one of them to stop was a bit of a nightmare—.
