Whilst making roast today I was happily mashing the swede with butter and pepper when DH came in took over and added loads of milk to the swede! In 25 years I have never added milk to mash swede but he said I should have been. Do any of you add milk?

Not to swede. Maybe a bit of butter and pepper.
Milk/cream and butter in potato mash!

DramaAlpaca · 24/02/2019 15:47

Just butter & pepper here. Milk would make it mushy, surely?

PeterPiperPickedWrong · 24/02/2019 15:52

Eeew why would anyone put milk in it? Shock

IfAtFirstUDontSucceed · 24/02/2019 15:55

I often finish off the cooking of the swede in a bit of milk before mashing just so it doesn't get too waterlogged.
Only add butter salt and pepper when mashing though.

GinaCarbonara · 24/02/2019 15:56

But if you normally make the mash then he obviously likes it without milk if he's been eating it until now?

Deyes999 · 24/02/2019 15:59

Exactly. He has been eating it without milk for 25 years!

Ooh no , in potato mash yes but not in swede

Iamboudicca · 24/02/2019 16:01

Did he think it was mashed potatoes? I put milk in mashed potatoes but only butter in swede.

Deyes999 · 24/02/2019 16:02

No he knew it was swede

I don't to swede, sweet potatoes or any other root veg, but I do to normal mashed potatoes.
