AIBU to not tip the Deliveroo Driver? If so, how much shall I tip?

Ok, quick answers needed as my Nando's is EN ROUTE! Never had Deliveroo before, but they have now added Nando's in my city and my belly is rumbling.

My order came to just under £25, paid on card (red pepper dip, houmus, halloumi sticks, 10 wings, garlic bread and chips since you wondered). I did see an option to tip the driver but didn't add anything.

I found a money off voucher for £2.50 on some website which I added which made my total less than it should have been. (Relevant).

Now I am in a conundrum: I have £1 in change, a fiver and a tenner. I have obviously got more on my card but am not the sort that eats out every single day etc. So what should I do?! Am I supposed to tip, will he spit in my food next time if I don't; do I just give him a £1; do I give a fiver; do I ask him if he has CHANGE for my tip and give him £2.50 that I saved by my coupon code?

Please help

nb. the deliveroo 'man' can also be a woman, or a person of no specified gender, or an animal. Either way my question still stands

£1!

radishingravish · 21/02/2019 21:29

i just wouldn't tip

Brownpigeon · 21/02/2019 21:29

I've ordered a very healthy takeaway of papa John's and have £1. So hopefully that is acceptable!

Turkeycondundrum · 21/02/2019 21:29

I usually tip £1 or £2. You already pay a delivery charge!

TheGirlWhoLived · 21/02/2019 21:30

Thank you, so I won't look like a twat handing over my little £1?

Has no one else in the house got a quid?

I would have just given £2 as a tip.

FredaFox · 21/02/2019 21:31

Well it's documented they are poorly paid. I survive £2 direct to them. Don't trust the online tip however I have used it before and the driver thanked me for it

FredaFox · 21/02/2019 21:31

Give not survive

TheGirlWhoLived · 21/02/2019 21:32

Ah bollocks... I'm the only one currently in the house. DC's might have change lying around. Thou shalt not judge, I shall replace it tomorrow Wink

My DS doesn't tip if he's paid by card.

If DS pays on delivery, he may round up. And I tipped (rounding up by about £1 - £2) the other day when the delivery driver had had an awful time trying to find us, and wasted about 10mins.

If you go for the groupon option, I'd suggest you tell him that's what you're doing "I had a £2.50 voucher, so if you can give me change for a fiver, I'll pass that saving to you" - I think that'd sound less odd than asking for change from your tip.

(You'll probably not see the same deliveroo driver again, so spitting in your food is not a problem!)

Pugwash1 · 21/02/2019 21:34

If you want to give a tip then £1 is better than nothing for the driver. I am sure many people don't tip but I do so appreciate your dilemma. In the past I have apologised for not having any more change despite knowing a lot of people aren't in the position or choose not to tip for their own reasons.

TheDHand · 21/02/2019 21:34

I try to give a couple of quid every time. They aren’t well paid and I imagine it must be a tough way to try and make a living.

Brownpigeon · 21/02/2019 21:36

I've just upped mine to £2. He called me, lost. And sounds like an older gentleman! So now I feel bad!

Mummyshark2019 · 21/02/2019 21:36

I don't tip

GregoryPeckingDuck · 21/02/2019 21:38

I only tip if they deliver the food without issue. Literally never happened. They always are either late (I.e. food is cold late), spill and break things, knock on the door really loudly and ring the doorbell a million times etc. But if I ever get one who bring me hit intact food without waking half the street (only deliveroo late at night I must admit) he’ll be getting a generous tip in cash.

TheGirlWhoLived · 21/02/2019 21:40

I've found another £1! stashed in a homemade purse of DD2 (4)
I usually parent a little better than this Grin £2 sounds a lot better. The voucher was on some daily mail code website... the shame. I stole the code and used it on my original page, not their new pop up. Made me feel better anyhow. Thanks all!

Enjoy others tucking in to takeaway about now!

We always give ours a couple of quid, used them a lot when DH wasnt very well so had the same bloke a couple of times and on the 3rd visit he was super speedy and has been ever since! Occasionally seem to get a few freebies in the bag too Grin

LollyHolly24 · 21/02/2019 21:50

No way i would tip!

Quintella · 21/02/2019 21:53

I always tip them a couple of quid. Wouldn't dream of not doing so.

shpoot · 22/02/2019 11:21

Your "Nando's" might actually be made in a metal container with no food hygiene rating. Deliveroo are minging.

Check out panorama

HollowTalk · 22/02/2019 11:31

Are you going to eat all that yourself?!

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 22/02/2019 11:39

I always give £2 in cash if I have it but on the order thingy if I don’t.

Munchkingoat · 22/02/2019 11:41

hollowtalk do get over yourself - none of your fucking business surely! OP ordered two types of dip and halloumi then chicken wings, fries and garlic bread. There's not even much meat of chicken wings. Maybe they'll eat it in one go or save some for later. It's hardly an insane amount of food.

HollowTalk · 22/02/2019 13:11

Hey I was only asking!
