Abut my ex buying me a car?

My car broke down, it's completely broken and fixing it would cost more than I paid for the car and I don't have it.

My ex asked me when I was getting a new one and I said it would be a while because I do t have any spare money, I'm a stay at home mum and carer to my autistic (adult) son. My son can't leave the house if I don't have a car but isn't eligible for motability.

Our younger son is also autistic but high functioning, no sense of danger tho so trips out without a car are difficult when I have 3 children on my own.

So ex said he had some spare money, he would buy a car for the children because they need me to drive (obviously technically for me since I drive it)
I was wary, said no I'd wait but he insisted, he chose the car and paid for it without any input from me..

I'm very grateful.
But.
He hasn't given me any maintenance this month because he paid for my car.
I couldn't afford a car while including the maintenance he gives me so now I have a car I can't afford to run because I still have to pay for the things his maintenance usually pays for.

I understand the maintenance is for the children, the car is for the children but I told him I was short on money already and the children still need all the things they always needSad

So it's not a drip feed later.. He should have given me £500 for the month yesterday but didn't because of the car.

Ex sounds like an arse op! You need to have a sit down chat with him about how you're grateful but he needs to take the car back and give you maintenance

ButDoYouAvocado · 19/02/2019 16:51

That's crap he didn't buy you a car, you bought you a car!

PinkiOcelot · 19/02/2019 16:55

If he’s keeping money back from you because he bought you a car, he hasn’t actually bought you a car at all.

MaybeIamUngrateful · 19/02/2019 17:02

Ive tried to explain this to him but he's not getting that this wasn't the deal I agreed to and now I'm struggling more than I was!
I won't be getting any next month either because of the car I didn't even choose.

I should have known. He once bought me a phone contract for my birthday, that I had to pay for out of family money because I paid all the bills 😒

If he didn't pay you maintenance and got you a car with it instead then you bought yourself a car. If you can't afford it, get him to take it back/sell it and have the money! He sounds like a dick if he can't understand the concept that it's actually you who has bought it as he's bought it with your money.
