Help!!!! White spirit in washing machine

I’m sorry I’ve chucked this in here but j need replies fast as I’m desperate to use my washing machine. Really hoping someone can help me, Saturday night I accidentally put a cloth in the washing machine that was drenched in white spirit and did the wash. Not so bothered about the other items in there as they are just cleaning cloths and tea towels that I can easily replace but my washing machine absolutely stinks. I’ve kept the door open, I’ve done about 7 90degree washes, two of them I used bicarbonate soda and it’s made no difference. Help please, I need my washing machine back!!!

Zoflora? Lots of it?

Divgirl2 · 18/02/2019 06:45

It's just a case of letting the smell dissipate. Leave the washing machine door open for a day or two (and light a candle in that room to stop the smell overtaking your kitchen). Unfortunately I don't think there's any other way.

If you have a fan try pointing it at the machine and getting more air circulating.

Might also be worth cleaning the filters/traps because they hold smells.

Thank you for both replying. Tried zoflora in one or two of the washes, it made no difference.
Divgirl2 this is what I thought but it’s been 36hours and its just as strong as it was in the beginning and I’m desperate to do some washing.

Soda Crystals. Two or three boil washes with at LEAST a large mugful in each one. White spirit is an oil, you need something that will remove it.

Oils rot rubber and can permeate it so you may (possible not probable) need to replace the door seal.

(Spent years washing filthy oily army uniform, including diesel, petrol, oil, white spirit, turps etc).

Fiveredbricks · 18/02/2019 07:05

Fairy platinum boil wash. Strips the oils out.

Thank you off our to the shops, I’ll buy soda crystals and the fairy and give them both a go

I've done this! If all else fails, try vinegar in a couple of empty washes.

OnlyaMan · 19/02/2019 00:50

White Spirit, in the form of a saturated cloth, is unlikely to do any harm to the OP's washing machine, if that is what she is worried about.
But the smell......….not sure what to say. Just repeated washes, I suppose. It will "All come out in the wash".

Lemon juice on a cloth?
