To think Theatre group inappropriate for 7 year olds?

My daughters school have a private company in to provide drama/Theatre lessons weekly.
My 7 year old daughter told me tonight that they sing 'psycho' as their warm up song.

These are the lyrics:

Sweet but Psycho
Ava Max
Oh, she's sweet but a psycho
A little bit psycho
At night she's screamin'
"I'm-ma-ma-ma out my mind"
Oh, she's hot but a psycho
So left but she's right though
At night she's screamin'
"I'm-ma-ma-ma out my mind"
She'll make you curse, but she a blessing
She'll rip your shirt within a second
You'll be coming back, back for seconds
With your plate, you just can't help it
No, no, you'll play along
Let her lead you on, on, on
You'll be saying, "No, no"
Then saying, "Yes, yes, yes"
'Cause she messin' with your head
Oh, she's sweet but a psycho
A little bit psycho
At night she's screamin'
"I'm-ma-ma-ma out my mind"
Oh, she's hot but a psycho
So left but she's right though
At night she's screamin'
"I'm-ma-ma-ma out my mind"

She must have been singing it in front of my 4 year old as this evening he asked me what a psycho was.

I just dont feel happy about it. Im i being too sensitive?

This is the rest of the lyrics

Grab a cop gun kinda crazy
She's poison but tasty
Yeah, people say, "Run, don't walk away"
'Cause she's sweet but a psycho
A little bit psycho
At night she screamin', "I'm-ma-ma-ma out my mind"

[Bridge]
You're just like me, you're out your mind
I know it's strange, we're both the crazy kind
You're tellin' me that I'm insane
Boy, don't pretend that you don't love the pain

Not appropriate. Children that age are very impressionable. Last thing you want is for her to be getting into pop music. It’s All Things Bright and Beautiful or nothing in this house.

thewinkingprawn · 17/02/2019 22:22

Get what you mean but my 7 year old can sing that off by heart from listening to the radio so i’m a bit meh about it tbh

Mumshotel · 17/02/2019 22:23

Ha ha. Im not that bad. But honesty look at the lyrics! For a 7 year old to learn.

God that bloody song.

I’ve had it stuck in my head for WEEKS.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 17/02/2019 22:25

I really, really hate that song. For that reason alone YANBU.

Mumshotel · 17/02/2019 22:27

Ha ha. I was a bit worried about trying to explain why a girl would be described ad a psycho. All joking apart its a cruel thing men say to women and i don't want her thinking its acceptable. I prob am reading too much into it but my gut instinct was it wasnt right.

shrug I danced around my house to Madonna's Like A Virgin album at that age. I turned out alright.

RoboticSealpup · 17/02/2019 22:32

I don't think you're being unreasonable. But then my DD is 4 years old and I can still control what she watches and listens to. I guess once they start school, that gets difficult. Not that I'm freaking out about it, or anything...

Hairyporker · 17/02/2019 22:34

I only allow hymns or religious chanting.

ginnybag · 17/02/2019 22:36

There's a difference between kids sort of picking the lyrics up to something because they've heard it a few times and the kind of focus they'll be giving it at this type of group.

I run a drama group and I'm all for stretching range away from the kid-standard stuff but I wouldn't even consider that.

Dairyqueen2 · 17/02/2019 22:45

I wouldn't be happy with this at all and would be having a word with them and/or school. Really not acceptable. Agree that if you don't want to do kiddy stuff in a singing/drama group, you can find plenty of less raunchy pop songs. Btw are you sure it's that song they're doing - not one with a similar name?

Mumshotel · 17/02/2019 22:46

Ginnybag. My thoughts exactly. I sung along to stuff as a kid with no clue or care as to what it meant. But to read and learn the lyrics is different. There are so many other current song's they could have used.

Its the concern that its normalising calling someone a woman a psycho within a relationship. Hopefully she hasnt thought much about it.

Mumshotel · 17/02/2019 22:48

No its 100% that song. I asked her to sing it to me, which she did in full complete with actions (winding fingers alongside her head to signal crazy)

garethsouthgatesmrs · 17/02/2019 22:50

I wouldn't like this - I hate that song anyway for the reasons you've suggested ( calling a woman a "psycho") but definitely not for my kids to learn in school. We do listen to it on the radio and my kids do know it but learning it at school is a no-no

Rafabella8 · 17/02/2019 22:52

No no and no. Not right at all. I would be removing her immediately and canning the group. Make sure the organisers know by.

Rafabella8 · 17/02/2019 22:52

Sorry, know why.

Fraying · 17/02/2019 22:53

I always think it sounds like 'sweet butter cycle' . . .it was only this weekend I realised what they were actually singing.

Dairyqueen2 · 17/02/2019 23:06

Ugh! I'd raise it with the school - I bet they aren't aware

GabsAlot · 18/02/2019 00:05

i duno about learning the lyrics as u say its a bit different t singing it off the radio but then i had the lyrics to madonna in my cassette case so

Catinthetwat · 18/02/2019 01:20

At school - no way! The context is important imo. Yanbu

Piebeansandchips · 18/02/2019 01:48

My DD is dancing to this at the moment with her dance school

She's come home singing she's sweet

Piebeansandchips · 18/02/2019 01:49

Pressed send too early

She's sweet but a taco

FlipperSocks · 18/02/2019 01:55

There are so many reasons 7 year olds shouldn't be learning that song at school.
I think you're completely reasonable.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 18/02/2019 02:09

Now like a prayer and like a virgin were played a lot when i was a similar age. So my automatic response would be the same as a few others pf she doesnt really know what it is about

But then i didnt learn either at school, maybe thats whats making it inappriote. Im not sure our parents would have been delighted if we'd learnt like a prayer at school.
