To ask where you'd look for an engagement ring?

I'd like something vintage-y; I don't really know other than that! I'd be uncomfortable with DP spending over a grand...

If you want to share the ring you love, I'd love to see that too Thanks

Go to a small independent local jeweller (perhaps in a town or city that's meaningful to you) and have one custom made. You get something unique with a 'story' for great value.

AnneLovesGilbert · 16/02/2019 21:17

Mine is off Etsy.

Romanov · 16/02/2019 21:18

depends where you are?
if you are South UK, I would say go to the Lanes in Brighton

SnowBambino · 16/02/2019 21:18

The lanes in Brighton. Lovely antique and vintage jewellers. After searching the Jewellry Quarter in Birmingham and various places in London, including Hatton Gardens, it was by far the best with the biggest choice of rings in our budget range. I would definitely recommend a trip. I had my wedding ring made in Brum though, it looks very vintage, to go with the antique engagement ring. I love it too.

OllyBJolly · 16/02/2019 21:18

Mine was designed by DH with my DDs and made by a local jeweller. Totally unique and I love it.

scaryteacher · 16/02/2019 21:18

Mine was bought from friends of dh's parents who ran the local antique shop. Worth looking in antiquey places imo.

EsmesRedPetticoat · 16/02/2019 21:21

I got mine from an antiques centre (York if you are anywhere near there)
It’s Edwardian and cost nowhere near a grand!

YahBasic · 16/02/2019 21:25

Mine is from Jenna Clifford. It’s a South African company and the exchange rate is favourable.

I wanted a vintage style and I customised one that they already had. It cost about 1700 in total (got a good discount), and we had it valued as being worth 3k.

I adore it and get tons of compliments.

fedup2017 · 16/02/2019 21:26

Go to your local independent jewellers and look in there "second hand" display.
My ring is Edwardian and I love it.... Cost around £500

sunshineandshowers21 · 16/02/2019 21:29

my partner purchased the ring at an auction and then took it to an independent jeweller who reset the stone and added some stones from a ring that had belonged to my partner’s mum.

Racheyg · 16/02/2019 21:33

Mines from the lanes in Brighton. It's early Victorian. Love it. Proper weighty as well

Racheyg · 16/02/2019 21:34

reddA · 16/02/2019 21:48

Auction - you'll get a lot more for your money, check commission rates first.

TortoiseLettuce · 16/02/2019 21:53

77 Diamonds sells affordable brand new rings and has some vintage style settings to choose from.

Mmmhmmokdear · 16/02/2019 21:59

Harrietsferrets · 16/02/2019 22:35

I got mine in an antique shop in a welsh town. Was walking past and it was in the window. Its 1920's and cost less than £150.

JaceLancs · 16/02/2019 22:47

Depends where you are
Antique or just plain second hand will save you a fortune
Love the lanes in Brighton
Lincoln area fab choices
York same
Birmingham jewellery quarter lovely
If in north west or Leeds or Newcastle pm me and I’ll happily suggest
Bristol or Gloucester or Cotswolds or Shropshire can think of a few
I spend a lot of time shopping for jewellery which I enjoy for a while then sell on to make money
Other pieces I wouldn’t part with!

harriethoyle · 16/02/2019 23:07

Andrew R Ullman in Hatton garden in London has beautiful antique and vintage jewellery
