To ask if you've done a video interview?

Has anyone done one and can you let me know what it's like please? This has thrown me a bit, I've always been quite good at job interviews and actually enjoy them but I've never done an online one before, I'd much rather have a face to face. It's for a management position in retail, I'd appreciate any advice 👍

A phone or skype interview is pretty normal in my industry (IT) for the first interview.

Generally they are 30-60 minutes long where you first talk about exactly what the role is to make sure you're both on the same page, then it's a bit of a chat about your experience and how it matches the role followed by a chance for you to ask questions.

I've found that they don't normally go to deep into questions as that would be saved for the face to face interview if you go through to that stage.

Thanks for that ☺

I've interviewed someone before via a video call. The video call went well and video calls are a good way to get a feel of someone's personality before meeting them face to face. Just make sure the background looks tidy :)

Is it a phone/skyo interview or a video one? They are actually different. My son just had a video one. They relay the question to you give you a few minutes prep time and then you record your answer to the webcam.

He said he prefers face to face or even phone ones because of the interaction. It felt a bit strange.

Make sure background is plain with nothing distracting behind you. Look at webcam not the screen otherwise you face down

Haha I've thought more about background than questions being asked, think it's the photographer in me. It's a via an app I think, I'll get lots of notes together and just go for it 👍 I've got until Monday so I'll have a practice.

If it's video my DH has had to watch loads of them. Seems most don't talk through their thinking or they sit in silence for ages. The person he picked was one who gave an answer and a few minutes later said she was wrong and why and gave her new answer.
