To want to eat somewhere nice?

We're driving from Manchester to Padstow this afternoon. I'd like to stop and eat at a pub, DH would choose a grotty motorway service station. I'm driving the first leg, would IBU to drive off the motorway somewhere?? And if so any recommendations roughly half way between Manchester and Padstow????

Halfway looks to be around Bristol, no recommendations but there are definitely lots of nice pubs

Second the Gloucester Services recommendation. My first though when I saw your post was that GS would be perfect and then I saw that Mmm had beat me to it.

Make sure you eat there again on the way back and also load up on ridiculously priced groceries from the farm shop.
