No. Lots of effort for very little money back.

My best friend did it.

JasperKarat · 14/02/2019 23:39

Friend of mine did it, made next to nothing. People just order online these days

inchoccyheaven · 14/02/2019 23:41

I did it for 20 yrs and the extra money was useful but I did have a big territory and customers that took the book to work and got more orders to make it more worthwhile.
I had a good routine for it and got to know my customers well. I wasn't pushy in sales though or built up a team which if you did would probably make more money.

dontticklethetoad · 14/02/2019 23:41

No, but it is an MLM (albeit one of the less unscrupulous ones) so wouldn't touch with a barge pole. I imagine you have been recruited by someone? I expect the market is already saturated, so the only way youll make any money is by recruiting others and hopefully earn a pitiful commission off their sales (if they get any).

Do not waste your time or money on this. But if you're going to go ahead, check to see how many other Avon reps are in your area first. If you are the only one in a 10 mile radius, you might make some pocket money.
But I wouldn't.

I did it about 20 years ago, mainly because I couldn't find a rep and wanted to buy stuff myself. I traipsed the streets, and collected only a few orders. Even when I had a few regulars it was a nightmare pinning some people down to take delivery/pay. Very few people left the book outside and quite a few were ratty when I knocked for the book back.
I don't think you could earn more than a minimal amount.

Oh dear !! Glad I asked first before joining!! LOL!!

I wouldn't do it. It was fab 20-30+ years back, but most people just buy cheaper online now. (Even buy Avon online.)

It MUST be shit, because over the last 7 years, I have had FOUR different Avon reps, and each one gave up within 3-5 months. Two before they delivered my first sodding order!!!

Last one was 18 months ago. She took my order July 2017, and I am still waiting for it!

I will never order from any Avon rep again (if another one ever came round.)

Fatbutt · 15/02/2019 13:55

I have done it... Twice!

Second time was a little more lucrative as I sold at work, but after a significant order went missing from someones desk drawer I gave it up.

Its good in that you get to buy stuff on some great offers and much cheaper, the reps book (you don't earn commision on that) usually had some bargains, when they were in stock

I ended up getting caught up in the hype and spending more than I made trying out all the shiny new goodies - on the plus side, i have enough bubble bath to last me 2 lifetimes now!

If you have a network you can use, like a workplace, Join as Friends and Family rather than a round and take the book into work

DorothyZbornak · 15/02/2019 14:09

No, it's not worth it. MIL did it a few years ago and made next to nothing. Constantly having to chase people for money is more hassle than it's worth.

bec3105 · 15/02/2019 14:13

I'm a rep. Don't make a fortune from it but I do earn money. I also meet local people, chat to my neighbours, get to know the village better, get some exercise and get a discount off my own products.
It depends what you want from it I guess.

MontanaSkies · 15/02/2019 14:15

Look at eBay - there are literally thousands of Avon products on sale, very cheap and often with free P&P. Ask yourself- can you compete with that? And why are there so many Avon reps desperately trying to get rid of stock? I suspect the only way to make money would be to recruit a "team" under you - classic MLM structure.
