To ask what happens next with my engagement ring

My DH died 7 years ago and this isn't making me think too clearly today and wondering if any of you wise folks would know what happens in this situation.
My engagement ring was at the jewellers for repair as one of the stones was coming loose. The jewellers were repossessed today! No reply from the business number since I've been trying from 4pm. Shop has been emptied and closed up. No notice posted on it.
I'm so upset, and so worried. Can they keep my ring?
I will of course get advice tomorrow when things are open again but wondered if anyone had any idea where I stand.
Valentines Day of all days! x

I have no idea . I just wanted to say I am so sorry. Flowers

No, they can’t keep your ring as it’s not the property of the jewellery shop... however, you will need to prove ownership of the ring

BlueJava · 14/02/2019 21:40

Dig out some photos to have ready showing your hand with the ring on. They cannot keep it but you will have to prove ownership.

True.
Have you got it insured? Seek advice from your insurance company.

I have the receipt for putting it in for repair. Could show pictures of me wearing it for 20 years. Hopefully they whoever they are will accept that/
Thanks Starlight x

It is insured. But nothing could replace it really..Its the meaning of it. Will call my insurance tomorrow though as they may know what to do. Thank you hadn't thought of them.

I'm so sorry. Is there any number at all for the shop. Is there a shop owner next door who you could talk to and explain your situation who may know of any contacts or names for who owns it? Talk to Citizens Advice tomorrow, talk to the Council, your local MP - or anyone locally or wherever who might be able to advise you. Good luck!

GoGoGadgetGin · 14/02/2019 22:13

Oh you this must be awful for you- I would definitely get stuff together to show ownership and speak to insurance team asap. Hope to hear you have it back soon- just Thinking of similar story with a wedding dress that ended positively!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 15/02/2019 12:10

I hope you've been able to speak to the insurance team and they've been able to advise you Flowers

OrangeJuiceandLemonade · 15/02/2019 12:11

Oh this happened to me.

Don't worry - it's your property so not an asset of the company that can be seized.

We had it couriered back to us Smile
