To have no idea what is going on with Brexit

Please can anyone explain tonight’s votes to me in an idiots guide - I am increasingly lost with what’s going on

I don't think TMay knows what's going on either, OP.

SleepDeprivedCabbageBrain · 14/02/2019 21:10

I thought the same tonight. Fuck me, another motion I don’t understand with different articles in the same paper saying it makes no deal / remaining more likely!! Crazy

Walkingdeadfangirl · 14/02/2019 21:11

Its pretty simple. There is a majority of remain MPs in parliament who refuse to allow Brexit to happen and keep voting against anything that will allow Brexit to happen.

So nothing is happening and we are on course for a no deal / hard Brexit.

ginghambox · 14/02/2019 21:11

If only there a section devoted to Brexit, you could have asked there.

PJLove80 · 14/02/2019 21:12

I have even tried looking at the latest odds at the bookies online to try and work out what is happening - someone who understands must be able to help!

This is a very good Facebook page that aims to explain all this stuff.

MmaMakutsi · 14/02/2019 21:18

I bloody LOVE Jonathan Pie!

N0rdicStar · 14/02/2019 21:19

It's not just remainders.

Brexiteers cant agree and aren't voting together because they had no idea what they were voting for.

What I don't understand is why TM can have as many votes she likes but we can't have another referendum.

Read this.

abbsisspartacus · 14/02/2019 21:25

Teresa may gave them a deal they didn't agree with so she went off and came back with the same deal

Why the fuck they put a remainer in charge of the country during Brexit I will never know (also remainer) even I can see she has messed about and ran the clock down messing up everything like a brat doing the washing up badly so they don't have to do it again

arethereanyleftatall · 14/02/2019 21:32

Nobody knows. Although remainers like to pretend they knew every single thing that is happening now.

Amanduh · 14/02/2019 21:35

It wasn’t the same deal. Labour also gave them a suggested deal as did the SNP. All defeated. Believe me, TM is not the problem here!!

Aridane · 14/02/2019 21:40

That first BBC article is helpful- thank you for posting

SalrycLuxx · 14/02/2019 21:40

Nah. We had no idea the government could be this incompetent.

We thought they do a bad job, but not this godawful farce.

EthelFechan · 15/02/2019 06:49

majority of remain MPs in parliament who refuse to allow Brexit to happen and keep voting against anything that will allow Brexit to happen

It's the rabid leavers in the ERG and DUP who are thwarting Brexit. And Mrs May is no remainer - all she cares about is the Tory party. She puts party before country every time.

JenniferJareau · 15/02/2019 07:02

TM isn't the issue, she is doing her best in an unwinnable situation.

It'll go down to the wire. Parliament will either vote for the deal at the 11th hour or it'll be a no deal Brexit for us.

InMySpareTime · 15/02/2019 07:26

Basically:
We can't have a deal (negotiated deals keep being voted down)
We can't have no deal (that would be unthinkable)
We can't back out of the deal (that would cause riots)
We can't ask people again (that would be somehow undemocratic).
What exactly is TM supposed to do in that scenario?
You can see why we're the laughing stock of Europe, loads of people voted for sovereignty, this is what sovereignty looks like.

Arkos · 15/02/2019 07:28

Teresa? Is that you?

Cremeeggsareforever · 15/02/2019 07:41

TM isn't the issue, as much as I dislike the woman. Hardly anyone else in her party stepped up to do it, and David Cameron buggered off leaving somebody else to sort out his mess.

Personally I'm sick to the baxk teeth of hearing about Brexit. The whole thing is going round in circles. We are the laughing stock of Europe and somehow that makes us look like a 'strong sovereign state'.

Quartz2208 · 15/02/2019 07:46

That’s the problem no one knows what they want

And ultimately it will come down to a no deal motion where we will see who is prepared to vote down no deal.
If they do who knows what kind of purgatory we will be stuck in
If not it’s the hell of no deal

ethelfleda · 15/02/2019 07:52

Teresa? Is that you?

Grin
BelleSausage · 15/02/2019 07:54

It’s not remain MPs.

All of the amendments last night were defeated by the ERG- the hardline Brexiteers. They want a No Deal and are using the strength of their numbers in a split parliament to make it a reality.

remainymcremainface · 15/02/2019 07:54

"What exactly is TM supposed to do in that scenario?"

She's supposed to be honest and a grown up and stop peddling the bullshit that another vote is undemocratic and start being honest about consequences of no deal and stop constantly trying to play one side off against the other.

I know politics can be a bit of a game, but stuffs getting serious and it's time to behave like grown ups in response!!!
