WIBU to eat this food

We are quite short on money due to DP’s redundancy last year. I went to Aldi to buy some top up food for this week and had my teenage sons unpack the car. Discovered that we were missing a few items from the fridge today and went to find them rolling around at the back of our car. It’s been anything from -1 degrees to 10 degrees outside (10 degrees not achieved for long o might add). The items were bought around 5pm on Sunday. Would you eat them?

I normally pride myself on my food hygiene knowledge but as I recall, none of the courses covered “ham left on the back seat of the car” Hmm

The items are:
Butter (will eat, no issue)
Ham (Hmm)
Soft Cheese (Confused)
Feta (Confused)
Pâté (this I fear the most)

I’d eat the feta and possibly the soft cheese depending on the type. Not the meat though.

Birdsgottafly · 12/02/2019 20:26

I wouldn't. I hate having food poisoning, so I just don't risk it.

You can dose yourself up, if you have a cold etc and still go out, but there's nothing you can do about shitting yourself.

LaurieMarlow · 12/02/2019 20:27

I’d say the feta and soft cheese will be fine. I don’t store soft cheese in the fridge anyway.

I’d taste the ham and take it from there, chances are it will be fine too.

Pate I’d reluctantly put in the bin.

lastqueenofscotland · 12/02/2019 20:28

I’m usually the worst for eating anything and everything much to everyone else’s horror... and I’d not eat that. Sorry

Pardalis · 12/02/2019 20:30

I would ditch the paté. Everything else will be well preserved. Unless direct sunlight on your car. Then I would sniff the ham first

BornInAThunderstorm · 12/02/2019 20:31

I am having Deja Vu, did you post this already OP?

Spam88 · 12/02/2019 20:41

I'd eat the cheese. Ham properly stinks when it's off, so if it smelled ok I'd go for it.

Bestseller · 12/02/2019 20:43

I'd eat it all if it looks and smells ok

GiveMeFiveMinutes · 12/02/2019 20:53

I'd eat all of it, presuming that it smells ok.

I'd eat the feta for sure. The soft cheese, given that it has the foil seal on it, I wouldnl. Ham and pate would be in the bin for me!

3boysandabump · 12/02/2019 21:57

I'd eat it all

Mum2jenny · 12/02/2019 22:03

I'd eat the butter and the pâté, not the others but that's because I wouldn't eat them normally. They'll be fine as it's not been particularly warm here in the U.K.

Oysterbabe · 12/02/2019 22:03

I'd eat it all.

usernamerisnotavailable · 12/02/2019 22:40

Ham will be fine. It's cured to make it last. Cheese too. Pate would probably go in the bin unless my DH found it as he will eat anything.

Notcontent · 12/02/2019 22:45

I would eat the butter and feta.

werideatdawn · 12/02/2019 22:51

Yeah ham and cheeses I would probably eat. Wouldn't touch the pate with a barge pole.

JasperKarat · 12/02/2019 22:57

Usually I'd probably just sniff and eat all of it, DH days I've got a cast iron stomach and is appalled at how far past use by dates I'll eat things. I'm BF at the moment though and DS isn't sleeping well/feeding almost constantly, so I can't cope with d&v on top of the tiredness so probably wouldn't risk the paté, the ham you'll know if it's off the minute you open it

MereDintofPandiculation · 12/02/2019 22:58

Fridge temperature is between 2 and 4 degrees. So they've had most of the time at fridge temperature, and some time at cool larder temperature. See how much time you think they've been at more than 4 degrees and make your decision on that.

If they haven't been above 10deg, then they've been nowhere near room temperature.

Mammyloveswine · 12/02/2019 23:25

Eeeh god I wouldn't eat any of it! Has the car not been driven out and about?! Can't believe everyone else would just tuck in happily!

Mammyloveswine · 12/02/2019 23:27

The items were bought Sunday afternoon... it's now Tuesday night... it was mild yesterday where I live in the north east!

HolesinTheSoles · 12/02/2019 23:30

Butter is ano brainer. Cheese will taste and smell bad pong before it could make you ill meat and pate are probably fine but I might not risk it.

toodlepipsqueaks · 12/02/2019 23:42

Another vote for butter fine, sniff the cheese and ham, and ditch the pâté. Fellow frequent shopping forgetter here who finds it hard to just throw away - you have my sympathies Blush
