How is crouching down to talk to your kids "cool"? Isn't that just what people do (if they are physically able to crouch down)!

I know AIBU to be reading this shit rag but I wanted to see the MM letters.

"As a small child I knew if mum crouched down to talk to me in public I was in real shit" haha so true!

My mums a weegie and once was asked what her "trick" was to dealing with us when we started acting up in public as the other woman was impressed she didn't even raise her voice. Mums reply?

"Having an accent that's naturally aggressive helps" 😂

Woman she was talking to had a pure Home Counties accent.

You also as a mum (who isn't at the mercy of paps though I think the duchess was once caught out on this one) have to perfect "the look"

The one that your child comes to recognise as "fuck! Better behave or else! Pushed it too far"

Which of course mumsnet has as part of its repertoire Hmm

Dothehappydance · 10/02/2019 23:49

Yeah that is a proper 'i don't care that you are 3rd in line, you are going to behave yourself NOW' position.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 11/02/2019 06:47

Do you remember the He was crouching Down talking to George.
HM would have definitely considered duty (to be seen - hence her Kermit green outfit) more important than good parenting.

Hence she is known as a great monarch, but generally not renowned for parenting skill.
(Also if any of the prior generations of Windsor’s crouched down on the balcony; they would disappear...)

Anne Hathaway is an idiot.

Don’t blame Anne Hathaway for the fact that some shitrag preaching to the lowest common denominator will have taken a totally innocuous comment she will have made in response to a question about parenting and made it seem like she’s crediting the royals with the invention of legs. It’s not her fault the tabloid press fetishise (or condemn) every tiny act a celebrity performs.

Obloodyhell · 11/02/2019 06:58

Is this Anne Hathaway the actress?

SheStoopsToConquer · 11/02/2019 07:08

Well it's not going to be Shakespeare's wife, is it?

JaneJeffer · 11/02/2019 07:36

SheStoopsToConquer is your name a tribute to the Duchess?

thebeesknees123 · 11/02/2019 08:24

It's a popular Supernanny technique - get down to their level as height can be intimdating for young children. Nothing new

Obloodyhell · 11/02/2019 08:33

No need to be snippy. It could be the name of a journalist hitherto unread on the Daily Mail.

JaneJeffer · 11/02/2019 08:41

I don't want to start a conspiracy theory but in that photo of Diana she seems to be speaking to a young version of herself Shock

The crouching definitely isn’t new, try bending arse up in the skirts of the past.

But for failed crouchers let me share the secret I discovered (and should apparently write a parenting book about) the “down on one knee”. So like you’re going to propose. You can lean/trap naughty or upset child against the front knees, while being at eye level, but can get back up again. Of course you’re other leg is in the mud but that’s the price you pay for not risking face first in the mud.
