To go to Prague on my own?

Chelsea26 · 08/02/2019 23:51

Booked a weekend in Prague with my boyfriend. He’s just stormed out and I’m done with his moods.

However I really want to go to Prague, I have a weekend without the kids, two days booked off work - could I go on my own or will I spend the weekend in a hotel on my own feeling like a dickhead?

Go on your own, you'll have an amazing time!

notacooldad · 08/02/2019 23:54

Why on earth wouldn't you?

DisaL · 08/02/2019 23:56

Definitely go! It's such an amazing place and you'll love it. There are loads of walking tours you can book onto which will get you out and about seeing the sights. You must try the goulash in a bread bowl. It's 3 years since I went and I've never eaten anything as nice since! Enjoy Smile

Really? It’s scary but strangely compelling....

I suppose if worst comes to worst I can read all the books I’ve wanted to for ages

Goulash in a bread bowl sounds worth it alone!!

Definitely go.
Go on a free walking tour. There’s loads. Sandeman’s ones are good. Have a google. Really good way to see the main sights of the city and then you can always pop back to other areas later.

I’ve never been to Prague but post divorce I’ve had several long weekends away alone. Once you’re over the initial trepidation it’s wonderful - hugely liberating!

ilovesooty · 09/02/2019 00:01

Do it!

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey · 09/02/2019 00:02

Definitely go - have a great time! Smile

lottiegarbanzo · 09/02/2019 00:04

Do it. I have. It was good and so beautiful. There's so much tourist stuff to do that you can just go out, do that and be just another tourist. Also fine for sitting alone in bars and cafes.

I'd get out earlyish for a touristy day, then retire to the hotel for a cosy dinner, bath, book / film and bed. Lovely!

Chelsea26 · 09/02/2019 00:04

Ok thank you so much guys - alarm set for 4! Eek!

I’ll let you know how I get on

Go! Look at pretty bones, and then get pissed in peace. It’ll be blissful.

Weenurse · 09/02/2019 00:05

Go and have a great time.
We need a report back on goulash in a bread bowl.

DisaL · 09/02/2019 00:08

So glad you're going! You will love it and I'm so jealous that you're going to be having the goulash!! My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

Skippingabeat · 09/02/2019 00:08

I spent 3 days in Prague on my own in March 2015 and had a wonderful time!

Definitely go and don't stay in the hotel!! It's a great city to walk in with loads of things to see. (Pinterest has lots of ideas on what to see and where to go)

Have a fab trip!

You can walk from the main square with the famous clock, to the bridge that runs over the river, then up the hill to the cathedral. There are also bus tours & segway tours, that visit the same places.
There was an ice bar next to the river
On the cathedral side, you can visit the Lennon graffiti wall
There are short boat trips on the river
I recommend the soup in the bread bowl and the chimney cakes
When I visited there were lots of buskers providing all sorts of entertainment
Lots to see, you will enjoy it

Asta19 · 09/02/2019 01:04

I ate goulash every day I was there! It was amazing. Definitely go, you won’t regret it.

ZenNudist · 09/02/2019 01:15

Book yourself on the taste of Prague food tour. They have excellent recommendations and yummy.

Cafe Savoy for breakfast then walk to the park and up petrin hill.

Tram out to see the modern art gallery or go see the old masters at the art gallery in the castle district.

Vyserad castle is nice for a windswept wander. The main castle is a lot to see on its own.

I had the best Vietnamese cuisine here. Taste of prague recommend a place. It was lush.

Go to a jazz club or book a classical concert in the evening.

Love Prague. Enjoy.

It's an amazing city!!! I have been twice which is very rare for me! Would go again in a heartbeat

You'll have an amazing time

NamedyChangedy · 09/02/2019 01:41

Oh I love Prague, I'm quite envious. You'll feel perfectly safe on your own there. Hope you have a great time OP.

xxcheshiremumxx · 09/02/2019 02:27

I've been in this situation, please go! You'll have a great time, an odd (yes very different as your on your own) but great time. I'm a bit awkward so headphones saved my life a bit but honestly I'm so happy I holiday'd alone! I'm also a mum now & 2 days away from washing clothes & toothpaste smeared up the sink sounds amazing. Enjoy wine! :)

Solstice888 · 09/02/2019 02:35

What's a grown adult doing 'storming out' of anything in a mood? I haven't done that since I was about 14. Take the holiday and ditch the wet blanket of a partner, permanently. You already have kids, you don't need a third big baby.

NewNameForHelpPlease · 09/02/2019 03:20

If you don’t go you’ll be mad at yourself as well as resenting him. Enjoy the sights and don’t let someone else’s petulance stop you seeing somewhere you really want to see!

lels99 · 09/02/2019 04:10

Good luck, have a great time

RaskolnikovsGarret · 09/02/2019 04:11

I went by myself in September. It was amazing. You can walk everywhere; I think I did 30k steps a day for three days, went to a concert, an opera, climbed up Petrin Hill, visited the Kafka Museum and Kafka’s grave, the castle, the Museum of Communism, several art galleries, and ate a lot of food. Very very easy and safe. Enjoy yourself!
