3 years ago family member died
Paid all tax due at the time to HRMC
Month ago got tax bill from them for 24k out of nowhere! Apparently they on the pry and investigating everyone to get more taxes from people?

AIBU to think this is heart breaking as I gotta find 25k

Did you receive a PET from then within 0-3 years before they died of roughly £60k?

Is it Inheritance tax?

It should have been sorted out at the time, so it might be worth talking to any of the lawyers who helped with probate.

Inheritance tax and it was completed 2 years ago.
Lawyer accountant are one who wrote to us with this deal!

Yes they do. They expect the next of kin to fill out a tax return for the time from the demise to the following April.
We got a tax bill and a penalty charge for my son 6 months after he died.
It is a horrible shock.
They don't care.

If you paid all the tax that was due at the time how is there such a large amount still owing?

That what we don’t understand - we paid he’ll of a lot 2 years back!

According to Howell Jones solicitors they changing the compliance act so you can be scrutinised again!

They after more money for brexit! Lol 😂 - joking!
