Leaving dressings on after surgery

Sorry posting mainly for traffic...not really aibu.

DH had surgery today on his foot. I had to work today and picked him up when I finished by which time he had been discharged so no chance for me to speak to the doctors and check what he is saying is correct.

He says he's been told to go back in 2 weeks for his dressing changed.

Is it normal to leave a dressing on for so long? I'm not medically trained but after my dogs surgery he needed dressing changes every 2 days...wont it be a bit manky by then, especially considering it's a foot and he has an open toe shoe thing to wear so will get sweaty and probably dirty walking around.

Nurse here. What kind of surgery did he have? Normally we would discharge patients with a supply of dressings so they could change it at home if it got lucky or wet after a shower etc. Have they asked him to go back to the hospital or to make an appt with the practice nurse?
