It's sweary derivative nonsense with an intensely annoying main character.

Am i missing something as 90% of my fb friends seem to be talking about how brilliant it is.

How far in are you? You're not supposed to like the main character at the beginning.

IJustLostTheGame · 06/02/2019 08:25

Yabu
DH and I finished binge watching it last night

Fazackerley · 06/02/2019 08:26

I'm just up to having done the third episode, I'm quite liking at the moment and intrigued enough to keep going, so far.

GissASquizz · 06/02/2019 08:33

I like the main actress so watched the first episode. Didn't like any of the characters and found the constant swearing a bit try hard. Worth trying it again then?

Room101isWhereIUsedtoLive · 06/02/2019 08:40

I got about six minutes in and then was just like 'nope'. Not the swearing that put me off, I just didn't think an attractive female character being fingered by someone who might have made a five on the gay attractiveness scale was something I wanted to buy into. I mean I get its meant to underline that she is bored and frustrated with her life but quite frankly if she is moving in those kind of social circles it would imply to me that she has the money for therapy and the ability to take a step back and really have a good think about what she could do to improve it.
But the start of the show was implying to me, look at all these unfufiiled hipsters. Isn't there life terrible?

I loved it but have to concede I came back to it after pausing episode 1 for a while but then ended up bingeing the lot.
Her character at first jarred with me - hair I had in the 80s(!), new yooorkk brash chain-smoking moxie stereotype.
But by the end I had fallen for her and found the whole enterprise surprisingly moving.
You really need to stick with it until Alan is established as a main character. That, for me, is when it changes and becomes something more.

ZenNudist · 06/02/2019 08:43

I loved it. Hoping it's stand alone, it doesn't need a season 2.

Going to watch groundhog day (again) now!

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 06/02/2019 08:48

Also agree that she isn't meant to be likable - she is flawed for reasons you discover later - and the one-night stand at the start fits in plot-wise.
I hadn't noticed the swearing Blush but genuinely would urge those who initially wrote it off to stick with it, I'm so glad I did.

Biancadelriosback · 06/02/2019 08:51

Room if you actually watch more you'll see how ironic your comment is

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 06/02/2019 08:58

Zen it's been pitched as a 3 season show but I found the 1st season fulfilling as a stand-alone. So whilst I might watch more (and find like The Good Place that the standard remains high) I liked it in itself (in the same way The Affair should have ended at the end of series 2 when the pay-off was so so good). Fair play to the writers and cast though, for me it's an emmy-winning performance from Lyonne (and I never thought I'd be saying that when watching the first episode).

theworldistoosmall · 06/02/2019 08:59

I enjoyed it. I binged watched it all on Saturday.
Agree though no need for series 2.
Didn't notice it littered with swearing, but then I watch loads of programs with swearing.
