This ones for the ladies - have any of you been on a contraceptive pill and not gained weight ? I really need something to help with my terrible pmt and painful heavy periods but am reluctant to go on the pill for fear of picking on more weight. I’m already very over weight and trying hard to lose it but scared to ask my dr for the pill in case I put on more. Having said that I’m getting desperate to find something that will help me with my unbrable monthlys ! The week before it starts I’m terrible, miserable, evil in fact ! Have crippling headaches just awful, and just feel like I can’t function. Then when I actually come on it’s heavy and so painful, it then takes me a good week to get over it. So I am currently only feeling ‘normal’ for 1 week a month. I can’t carry on like this but don’t know exactly what to ask my GP for.

Thank you, thinking the implant me be and option besides the pill, just worries me that if it doesn’t agree with me it’s not as easy to remove. Whereas the pill can just be stopped. I’ll speak with my GP about both, really don’t want something that might make my mood even worse. Trial and error I suppose.

I got the copper coil fitted last week after 14 years of never using any form of contraceptive (except the pull out method) so far I'm finding it ok. It caused a period which I'm still on but I felt I needed it as I have pcos so was way overdue a period (last one being July18) So far I don't have any pain or negative side effect but it's early days. I'm really hoping this works as I'm so sick of the pull out method and too scared to go down any other route. I'm sensitive to meds and worried hormones will effect my mental health. Hope whatever you decide works for you OP.

I've tried pill, injection and implant. I am a physco fat bitch on all of them. I just use condoms now!

Had pills. 1st normal then combine. Single didnot suit me. Combine was ok but it i creased hair growth on chin and under neck. Then left pills and got pregnant. Now after having baby who is now 5 months thinking what to do.

I have trouble with hormone contraceptives (mood swings), but the last ditch one, cerazette, has been the best one. Hardly any horrid side effects, I do have a few mood swings but I'm mostly pretty level - even more so without it as I'd get horrible PMT for a couple of weeks before my period. But best part, after an initial 10 day period, no other bleeding. Just a bit of spotting now and then. A few acne spots here and there, but no weight gain.
But every pill is different for every woman. If I'd have listened to the horror stories about cerazette before taking it, I wouldn't have taken it. So it's a matter of trial and error really.
