AIBU to ask your help on mattresses

We moved last year so brought new furniture and have slowly been decorating. We’ve just done our bedroom and although the frame is new the mattress is still the same one I brought 5 years ago just because it sounded like a good deal. I really want a new mattress but have no idea where to start. I’ve tried google but it’s jot helped ,..

I suffer with back and neck pain, used to be a front sleeper but now post baby I’m more of a side sleeper Aibu to ask for your mattress recommendations??

The ones they have in premier inn...hypnos

Pfnb · 04/02/2019 03:12

Ikea works for our family.

Justagirlwholovesaboy · 04/02/2019 03:13

Otty, is like sleeping on a cloud!

Justagirlwholovesaboy · 04/02/2019 03:14

I had hip pain, only draw back is you may never leave the bed!

AppleYumYum · 04/02/2019 19:32

I second the Otty, it's been a week and my aching back is so much better. I got an Otty deluxe pillow on eBay cheap too as it had no packaging and that is also really comfy. I am a front sleeper and my dh is more of a back/side and we're both really pleased.

I am not sure what it's like a year or two in, anyone had one for awhile?

Waveysnail · 04/02/2019 19:33

Mammoth sprung

BudgiePie · 04/02/2019 19:37

Where do you buy the hypnos from? I'd like one of those.

MRex · 04/02/2019 19:48

Go and try them out in John Lewis or Dreams. We like our Simba.

why100000 · 04/02/2019 19:55

I have the Dreams Mumsnet medium firm Spirit mattress

www.dreams.co.uk/mumsnet-spirit-mattress/p/131-00638-configurable

and it is lovely. There is also a firmer version call the “Kindred”.

why100000 · 04/02/2019 19:55

called

Justagirlwholovesaboy · 05/02/2019 01:27

@AppleYumYum about 7 months now, plus the pillows (they were a freebie bonus with the mattress). Still the most comfortable I’ve ever known

Frainbreeze · 05/02/2019 01:51

Simba mattress is divine.

Patr1ckJane · 05/02/2019 03:27

Busy googling OTTY and simba now. Just need to convince DH our loves would be better for splashing out on mattress & pillows

hah, your lives will be awful as you will oversleep and never want to get out of bed! Stick to a lumpy old mattress :P

Frainbreeze · 05/02/2019 04:25

Can testify the Simba mattress is super comfortable and has led to a much more comfortable sleep problem. It's not cheap, but will last you a very long time.

TheGirlWhoLived · 05/02/2019 04:49

I have the mumsnet Kindred mattress and I genuinely love it. It has no roll together, is supportive and comfy and made from non-allergenic stuff! I have had my best nights sleep on this by a country mile Grin

sayanythingelse · 05/02/2019 07:23

Another vote for Otty, it's the best mattress we've ever had.

I slept in PILs spare room over Xmas on an ordinary sprung mattress and it was like sleeping on a bed of nails after having an Otty Shock

DorisDances · 05/02/2019 08:03

We bought a half price premium Laura Ashley mattress (sale) - comes with built in topper. Made a massive difference to our quality of sleep.

JustMarriedAndLovingIt · 05/02/2019 08:13

We got ours in Bensons for Beds. It’s a sprung mattress with about 2600 springs, number 3 softness. Cost about £1200 so was a real extravagance but we’ll have it for years.

MeetJoeTurquoise · 05/02/2019 08:14

Now I've been looking at a Kindred mattress. Are they really that firm? I need a really firm mattress to get a good sleep and current mattress is just crap so I sleep in the spare bed instead.

Fancyacuppaluv · 05/02/2019 08:18

I also suffer with back and neck problems and would highly recommend the Simba mattress.

Shodan · 05/02/2019 08:20

I'll second (third?) the Hypnos.

Expensive but you can turn it as well as rotate it so it'll last better, without getting dips.

Pyjamaface · 05/02/2019 08:21

@BudgiePie Just Google Premier Inn beds and it should bring it up. You can buy the whole bed or just the mattress.
I've had the hypnos for a couple of years and it is still amazing

Yogagirl123 · 05/02/2019 08:23

We brought a Relyon memory foam mattress, and handmade base divan base 10 years back, it was expensive but it really has lasted, not a dip in it. Would recommend.

Personally, I am not a fan of the Hypnos mattress and avoid Premier Inns, as I know DH will moan of backache and lack of sleep for days after sleeping in this style of bed.
