To think I won't get the job offer

I had an interview Tuesday last week. They said they'd get in touch but haven't. It's a fairly senior role at a university the person below the vice chancellor was at the interview (it was a panel interview) do I'm either second best, or they're too busy to be bothered to tell me I didn't get it :(

You're right in that successful candidates usually hear pretty quickly. However, I wouldn't give up hope just yet as they may not have finished all their interviews so even if successful, if you were one of the first interviewees, you probably won't hear until all interviews are concluded. They could also just be a bit slow at getting through things.

I believe all interviews were held on the same day. The senior man mentioned they'd definitely be finished by the end of last week.

I'm in a similar position. Was told I'd hear by Friday just gone. They have emailed to say there is a delay so I'm wondering if I'm second best too!

I waited over a week, assumed I hadn’t got it but actually had. No idea if I was second choice but I accepted.

In fact that interview went so well that we ended up getting distracted repeatedly about our personal lives!

Very true, and that's why I don't despair. Last time this happened I got into a very dark place. But I learned my lesson.

Glad you learned from it. I interview and often it's very close and comes down to a feeling.
Meanwhile, I'm still waiting. Hope is not lost as I have received a 'sorry for the delay' email.
