To move to a private school?

I've been teaching in state education for 10 years. I'm just fed up of the ever increasing workload and can't cope.

A job has come up in a private school nearby and I'm interested but am worried about things like sick leave and general rights. Is there guidance anywhere about what's the minimum schools have to offer?

Depends on the school of course but I doubt staff in private schools have much less of a workload. Round here a lot more seems expected of them in extra curricular terms in particular. Terms are generally shorter but hours in term time longer.

Holidays are definitely longer - 17 weeks instead of 11 or so. But our local private school is open on one of the May Bank Holidays & they do some lessons on Saturday as well as extra curricular stuff after school.
All the schools policies on sick pay etc should be provided on their website or as part of the application pack, or you could ask at the interview. I can’t imagine it could be too bad - they’d have to stick to statutory rights as an employer. What extras you get & what extras are expected of you will depend on the school.
