And if so, what to expect? Extremely excited but absolutely terrified at the same time.
All tips welcome!

Yes.

Was great

moredoll · 02/02/2019 16:48

No, but I've always wanted to. And then I get a little bit scared and get on with the washing or go out for a run.

IrnBruAndTwiglets · 02/02/2019 16:50

I did one in St Maartem this Christmas. I was terrified too but honestly, having done it I'd do it a hundred times over! My tip is remember what they tell you, like where to put your head and legs. When we jumped I was so in the moment that I forgot everything!

PetuliaBlavatsky · 02/02/2019 16:50

Yes I have - a tandem one. It's fine, you don't have to do anything in particular for a tandem one because the instructor controls everything.
It is so windy when you are free falling that it can be hard to catch your breath but it lasts for seconds. Gliding down with the parachute is far more fun, very tranquil.

Yes and it was damn good fun - you have you’re parchute and a reserve

bengalcat · 02/02/2019 16:51

Your parachute

RottenTomatoes959 · 02/02/2019 16:53

Thanks everyone. It is a tandem one (Thank god). I'm just nervous now that ill end up crying or be so scared I'll refuse to jump out of the plane!!

Ah a tandem one that’s easy then ps if you’re tandem / ‘tied to someone ‘ then snowflaking out isn’t an option really

Oddcat · 02/02/2019 17:00

Yes a 10,000 feet tandem jump . It was a surprise birthday present - I can only assume my boyfriend hated me Grin

I sobbed all the way up in the plane and when they slid the door back I thought I was going to have a coronary. Best bit was when the parachute opened and I realised I wasn't going to die !

werekitty · 02/02/2019 17:11

I've done a 10,000 feet tandem skydive over the whitsunday Islands in Australia. Was absolutely amazing, still got the dvd of it and would definitely do it again!

Wankypeacock · 02/02/2019 17:12

I did one for my 50th. I was petrified going up in the plane but it was one of the best things I have ever done and if I'd been allowed to join the back of the queue and do it again then I would have.

TheTempest · 02/02/2019 17:14

Yes I did one last year, a tandem. I cried all the way up, jumped out of the plane and loved every second. Definitely doing it again!

Lantern92 · 02/02/2019 17:14

I've done a tandem one and it was one of the best things I have ever done. Trust me you won't get a chance to back out once you get up there- you're strapped to the instructor and they just manhandle you do the door Grin the force of the straps pulling when the shoot opens is brutal though- I had bruises on my legs

Bigdreams · 02/02/2019 17:16

I've done 2 tandem dives. I was scared both times but absolutely loved it. No feeling like it in the world. The bit where the door opens is scary but the guy was much bigger than me so he just sort of shuffled out of the door and I had to just go with it as he was much stronger! You free fall for around 30 seconds - 1 minute and then the instructor pulls the parachute. The free fall is so fast you barely notice it and then the parachute part feels eerily quiet after the rushing wind of the free fall. The parachute bit is so calm. When it comes to near the landing part it gets a little nerve racking again and suddenly it feels like you're going faster (You're not it's just because the ground is coming towards you fast). When you land try to run rather than plonk on your bum like I did!
Ace fun. Go for it!

stargazer101 · 02/02/2019 17:21

I did one for my 60th it was fantastic and wouldn't hesitate to do another.

Iloveautumnleaves · 02/02/2019 17:37

I really really really wanted to when I was young, but couldn’t justify the money at the time. Now I would spend the money on something I wanted to do I’ve lost the bottle! I’m happy flying, but I like the doors firmly shut 🤣

I’d be like one of those cartoons...starfishing across the doorway screaming.

IF I went tandem I’d need to book at 6’5 (min) brick outhouse type bloke, no one else would stand a chance of manhandling me out the door.

ImMeantToBeWorking · 02/02/2019 17:57

Yes. I tried to not jump, the guy strapped to me didn't listen and out we went. The worst bit was how tight you get strapped to the instructor. Leaves nothing to the imagination like. But it is such a trill. I would do it again in a heart beat. And it's over before you know it. Enjoy!

FuzzyPuffling · 02/02/2019 18:01

I did a tandem one and the instructor was extremely reassuring, so I was less terrified that I thought I might be. When the parachute opened I remember yelling "this is brilliant"...the floating sensation and the bird's eye view were wonderful.

The instructors talk you through all of it, no need to worry. Mine said "I've done 4,000 of these and not lost anyone yet!"

Enjoy!

m0therofdragons · 02/02/2019 18:16

Yes, tandem. I was terrified but my partner for the jump was tall so when we jumped my feet didn't reach the floor so no choice! It was amazing but I don't plan to do it again Grin

Bigsighall · 02/02/2019 18:19

Yes. It was the best thing ever!!! Loved every second of it. Being strapped to a fit man wasn’t terrible either 😁

MilkItTilITurnItIntoCheese · 02/02/2019 18:23

I did a tandem. 10,000ft.was a scary ride up for around 25 mins. Slightly weird being strapped to the instructor but I felt in safe hands. A totally exhilarating experience I am happy to say I e done but don't feel the need to do again!

rollonoctober · 02/02/2019 20:13

I did a tandem one in Cuba, landed on the beach of our hotel! Was amazing. The only thing I found was that once the parachute opened and we were slowly descending, I felt really sick, like motion sickness. But I must be weird as not heard anyone else say that!

Boomboomboomboom · 02/02/2019 22:52

I did a tandem from 15,000ft in NZ. About 1 minute of freefall, which was amazing.
However I also got motion sickness once the parachute was opened and I think it was the tight turns coming into land.
I would definitely do it again and it wasn't really frightening and no scope to chicken out as you're strapped to someone else!
